This seems to be the best bet to get back sensible upload times - gzip isn't any user here anyway, and compress.zlib seems to play badly with others.

Also resolving a typo someone reported, and bumping the version.
I'm not 100% sure there isn't a better way of working around the compress.zlib weirdness, but this seems like the right tradeoff for now.
