refactor(demystify): drop the track-less genres and all playlist provenance
Retire the seven genres that carried no tracks — eurodance, grunge, synthwave, shoegaze, britpop, acidhouse and chiptune were never in the source material, so they were published as near-empty entries. 26 genres remain, still covering all 60 tracks across 6 families. Remove everything that framed these as a personal rotation: - drop the `source:` field and its badge, which only ever read ON REPEAT - drop the P1/P2 playlist positions from the data, the track lists and the index table, and the note explaining them — they disclosed the source playlist's ordering just as directly as the label did - rename the detail heading to TRACKS IN THIS GENRE - order the track index by genre rank then title rather than playlist position - reword the one prose sentence that referred to On Repeat playlists Prerendered output drops from 529 to 522 documents; the sitemap tracks the change automatically.

This is the peak of the *loudness war* — masters from 2005–2008 routinely sit at DR4–6 with visible clipping — because CD and radio processing rewarded it. Vocals are comped syllable by syllable from dozens of takes. The pop-punk records deliberately mix guitars quieter than a rock record would, so the vocal never has to compete; the R&B records leave the low end almost empty so the kick and vocal own it.

Classic-era records were tracked live to four or eight tracks at TRT or Istanbul studios with minimal overdubs, which is why they swing. The 2000s wave (mor ve ötesi, Redd) adopted Western multi-track and loudness practice. The 2010s indie bands went the other direction on purpose — home and small-studio recording, audible room, little compression — because the appeal is the writing and the deadpan delivery, not the polish.

Because one person does everything, arrangement decisions happen at the same moment as sound-design decisions, and it shows: the vocal harmony _is_ the reverb, the percussion _is_ a processed breath. Vocal comping runs into the hundreds of takes. Mixes are made on headphones and small monitors for headphone playback, which is why they translate so well to earbuds and so poorly to a club system.

The signature swing is a sequencer setting, not a performance: the MPC's timing-correct/swing parameter set around 54–62% pushes every off-beat late by a few milliseconds. Producers deliberately record loops through the sampler's low bit-depth and sometimes through a cassette deck for saturation. Modern practitioners recreate this with plugins but many, Alchemist and Evidence included, still track through hardware because the artefacts are the point.

Everything is arranged around the chorus arriving in the first minute, because radio programmers auditioned records on a small speaker. Vocal stacks are recorded as three or four separate passes rather than copied, which is why the harmonies shimmer instead of phasing. The mix leaves a deliberate hole around 2–4 kHz for the lead vocal — the "AOR pocket" — and the bass is played with a pick for definition on car speakers.

These are *sequenced albums* in an era of playlists: track order carries meaning, interludes connect songs, and the mastering keeps enough dynamic range that a quiet passage stays quiet. The tradeoff is deliberate — individual tracks read as slightly less loud than trap singles on shuffle, which the artists accept in exchange for the album working as a single object.

Dark ambient is *mastered quiet on purpose*: the genre needs 20+ dB of dynamic range for a drone to feel like it's approaching from a distance, so loudness normalisation actively harms it — headphones and a quiet room are the intended playback system. Ulver went the other way and had Flowers of Evil mixed with period-accurate gated-reverb drum treatment, which is a production quotation as much as a sound choice.
