What's changing?

FastAPI Users is now entering maintenance mode. This means:

• ✅ Security updates will continue - We remain committed to keeping the project secure
• ✅ Dependency updates will be maintained - We'll ensure compatibility with the latest versions of FastAPI and other dependencies
• ❌ No new features will be added - We won't be developing new functionality
• ❌ Bug fixes will be limited - Only critical bugs affecting security or core functionality will be addressed

Why this decision?

After years of development and learning from the FastAPI Users community, we've identified opportunities to build something even better. The authentication landscape has evolved, and we want to create a more modern, flexible solution that addresses the lessons learned from this project.

What's next?

We're excited to announce that we're working on a new Python authentication toolkit that will ultimately supersede FastAPI Users. This new project will incorporate everything we've learned while providing:

• More flexibility and modularity
• Better developer experience
• Modern authentication patterns and standards
• Broader framework compatibility beyond FastAPI

We'll share more details as the project takes shape. Stay tuned! 🚀

What should you do?

• Current users: Continue using FastAPI Users with confidence. The project is stable, battle-tested, and will remain secure.
• New users: FastAPI Users is still a solid choice for authentication. Evaluate whether it meets your needs as-is.
• Contributors: We deeply appreciate all past contributions. While we won't be accepting feature PRs, critical security fixes are still welcome.
