In my head the current roadmap is:

v1.0:

Full api integration of docker daemon
Correct documentation

v2.0:

Look more into New structure proposal #46 and PSR-7 comptabilities with maybe something like https://github.com/egeloen/ivory-http-adapter
Registry Api
(Maybe index/oauth api, or it will follow in the minor versions)

For the moment the first version is not ready at all and i don't know when it will be as we are mainly doing this lib on our spare time and guys at @docker are really fast so we need to catch up :)

In regards to your problem, push and pulling image from private registry will be good with first version (in fact you can already pull from private registry) as knowing where to push the images between public or private registry is done in the daemon not in the client : see https://docs.docker.com/reference/api/docker_remote_api_v1.15/#push-an-image-on-the-registry

EDIT: Also this is only my opinion, but if i'm not mistaken this must be close as @ubermuda one.
