Hi,

i read an article on golem.de about your project and immediately thought that this is a great project but i don't have access to a embroidery machine and don't i have the patience to it manually with a needle.

But I have access to a 3D Printer. What if you could export a g-code file that uses the printer as a embroidery-like-machine?
Instead of simply laying done the layers as usual it could print a base plate and apply extruded filament from one point to the other.

In old versions of the Cura slicer there was an option to do "wire printing". This worked by attaching the filament to a point, lift the print head above the surface and move it to another point where the filament was attached again. I think this could be used to generate a embroided look. Of course this wouldn't be real 3D as in the picture below but more like 2.5D.
