Photo Directory: Round shutter speeds and show long exposures in seconds - #1101
Photo::get_exif() turns the stored exposure time, in seconds, into 1/N with (int)( 1.0 / (float) $value ). The cast cuts off the decimals instead of rounding, so 1/60, which core stores as 0.016666666666667, becomes 59.99… and then 1/59. An exposure longer than a second gives a number below 1, so it shows 1/0; exactly 1 second shows 1/1. A non-numeric stored value would throw a DivisionByZeroError; there were none in the sample below.
I ran a sample of 954 live photos that have a shutter speed (read through the REST API, uploaded from 2021 to 2026) through the function. 330 of them change with this patch: 321 fractions that were one step off, 3 that were wrong in other ways (1/0 for 25 and 1700 seconds, 1/3 for 0.3 seconds), and 6 that were right but now use the seconds format.
This uses the same split as camera screens and ExifTool: fractions up to 1/4 second, seconds above that.
Up to 1/4 second: a rounded fraction, such as 1/60.
Longer: seconds with one decimal and an s, such as 0.5s, 1s, 2.5s and 25s. A plain 1 second used to show as 1/1, and 0.5 as 1/2.
Not a positive number: the row is skipped, as the focal length and ISO rows already do.
Testing
In a local WordPress trunk site (PHP 8.3), I loaded the plugin's registrations.php, photo.php and template-tags.php, created a photo with a featured image, stored each value in its image metadata, and read Photo::get_exif() and show_exif() before and after:

The 55 third-stop camera speeds from 1/8000 to 30 seconds, stored the way core stores them: before, 1/60, 1/15, 1/13 and 1/6 were one step off, 0.3, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8 seconds were wrong, and 1.3 seconds and longer showed 1/0. After, all 55 show as expected.
The 954 live values: the new output matches a separate implementation of ExifTool's rule, with the s added, for every value, and no rounded fraction moved further from the stored value.
The same 1,000 values (the live ones, the camera speeds and rounding edge cases) give identical output on PHP 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5.
When the shutter speed row is skipped, the aperture and ISO rows still show.

Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Shutter speeds in photo details are now displayed in a more readable format: fast speeds appear as fractions, while slower speeds appear in seconds.
Invalid or nonpositive shutter-speed values are omitted instead of being displayed incorrectly.
…in seconds.
The shutter speed was shown as 1/N with N truncated, so 1/60 showed as 1/59 and exposures longer than a second as 1/0. Exposures up to 1/4 second now show as a rounded fraction, longer ones in seconds, and values that are not a positive number are skipped.
get_exif() now validates shutter-speed values and formats positive values as reciprocal fractions or seconds based on exposure duration.

Summary
Validate and format shutter speeds wordpress.org/public_html/wp-content/plugins/photo-directory/inc/photo.php
get_exif() omits nonnumeric and nonpositive shutter-speed values. It formats values below 0.25001 seconds as reciprocal fractions and longer exposures to at most one decimal place with an s suffix.
Some narrowly bounded shutter speeds may display an inaccurate exposure duration.

The shutter speed on photo pages is often wrong. For example:
