Jetpack only emails posts of the `post` type, so a daily cron gathers the jobs published since the last run into digest posts: one listing all new jobs, grouped by job category and filed under a Job Alerts category, and one per job category, filed under a child category that mirrors it. The digest categories are offered as Jetpack newsletter categories, which are switched on the first time, so subscribers get either the daily email of all new jobs or the categories they picked, never both. The home page form subscribes to all jobs and a job category page's form to that category. Should a site switch newsletter categories off, only the digest of all jobs is published. Jobs are flagged for the digest when they get published, since moderation can publish them days after submission. Digest posts are kept out of listings, feeds and the sitemap, and redirect to the job listings they summarize. Fixes WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Publishing a draft job sets its post date to the time it went live, so the digest can take the jobs published since the last run, tracked in one option, rather than flagging each job on publication. See WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Jetpack only loads `Jetpack_Newsletter_Category_Helper` in its settings endpoints, so on front-end requests, in cron and when a job category is created the digest categories were never offered as newsletter categories, nor were newsletter categories switched on. See WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The email field was squeezed beside the button in the narrow sidebar, so the sidebar form puts the button on its own line. The digest class is now required ahead of the jobswp-* files, keeping the list in order. See WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Installs Jetpack from its plugin zip and runs it in offline mode. Offline mode skips modules that need a WordPress.com connection, so a mock mu-plugin lets the Subscriptions module (and the Blocks module its form needs) load anyway. The forms render and the digests publish; subscribing still needs WordPress.com. Also points the dev login mock at its current path. Docker mounted the missing file as an empty directory, and the resulting warnings on every request broke redirects. See WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Jetpack's default form is sized for full-width placements; in the sidebar the button now matches `.btn-sm`, and the description leaves the same gap above the email field as Jetpack leaves below it. See WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

- Line 254: Track the results of category-post inserts in the digest generation
flow and advance LAST_RUN_OPTION only when all required category inserts
succeed; on failure, leave the checkpoint unchanged so the window can be
retried. Make the retry path idempotent so already-created all-jobs and category
posts are not duplicated.
- Line 172: Update the digest query’s after boundary based on LAST_RUN_OPTION to
include jobs published in the checkpoint second, and use a cursor or
overlap-and-deduplicate strategy to prevent sending jobs twice.
- Line 163: In the digest publishing flow that reads LAST_RUN_OPTION, prevent
overlapping invocations from publishing the same window by acquiring an atomic
lock before reading the window and inserting posts, and release it when the run
finishes. Alternatively, enforce a unique digest identity before insertion so
concurrent runs cannot publish duplicates.

The digest read the raw `jobtype` meta, so emails listed jobs as "ft", "pt" or "ppt". Use `jobswp_get_job_meta()`, which the job listings already use to map them to "Full Time", "Part Time" and "Project". Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The candidate sections come from the profiles.wordpress.org API, which a local environment can't always reach. A mock mu-plugin answers that request with sample candidates, paginated like the real endpoint, so the home page and sidebar show the sections as they appear on the live site. See WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The form closes out the page, after the listings and candidates it offers alerts for. See WordPress#89. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Jetpack emails every post to subscribers of "All content", and adds existing subscribers to newly created newsletter categories. Separate all-jobs and per-category posts would therefore email jobs twice. The digest is now a single post, filed under Job Alerts and under the mirror of each job category it lists, so category subscribers get it on days their category has new jobs and nobody gets a job twice. This also removes the case where a failed category post was never retried. - Lock the run with core's upgrader lock, so overlapping runs can't read and email the same window twice. - End the window a minute before the run, so a job saved by a publish request still in flight lands in the next window instead of being skipped. - Only promise category emails in the sidebar when newsletter categories are on, since the form only preselects the category then. @coffee2code @annezazu Could I ask for your review for this? It uses the workaround of digest posts to allow email subscriptions through Jetpack. There are a few options in the PR description for how the form could be integrated. Is this functionality something you're interested in? |
Once digests exist, the Job Alerts category and its job category mirrors are no longer empty, so core listed them in the categories sitemap even though every one of them redirects. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

LGTM. I added a few minor suggestions/considerations.
As for the 3 design options, I'd vote B then C.

Might be worth preceding this line with a comment noting the (safe) assumption that jobs only have one category (in the event that ever changes):
// Assume jobs are expected to have only one category assigned.

Since we're not promising that the emails include just the subscribed-to category, maybe the in-category sidebar prompt can be reworded to curb some confusion:
__( 'Get the daily email when new jobs are posted in this category.', 'jobswp' )
"Get the daily jobs digest when..." would probably be clearer, but not if this is the only place. "digest" is used.

Consider a disclaimer here at the email that clarifies that the included jobs were available at the time of the creation of the email, but any one of them may have since been closed.
$content .= '<p>' . esc_html__(
'Job listings were active when this email was generated. Some may have since been filled, closed, or removed.',
'jobswp'
) . '</p>';
