Motivation for the change, related issues

Fixes #4436.

importWordPressFiles rewrites stored URLs only when both the old and new site URLs are Playground-scoped. #2989 added that scope swap. A full-site zip built on a regular WordPress host, such as http://build-host.example/wp, keeps that host in post content, meta, options and comments after import. Only siteurl/home get updated, so every absolute image and link URL breaks.

Implementation details

replaceSiteUrl() now applies one rule: when the old site URL (from the manifest, or inferred from siteurl) differs from the new one, every stored occurrence of it becomes the new site URL. The scope-to-scope case is a special case of this rule, so extractScopePath() is removed.

  • Trailing slashes are normalized on both URLs, so <old>/x becomes <new>/x.
  • Both the plain form and the JSON slash-escaped form (http:\/\/…) are replaced.
  • A match must end at a URL boundary, so http://example.com leaves http://example.com.au, http://example.com:8080 and …/wp-other (for an old URL of …/wp) alone.
  • Posts (post_content, post_excerpt, guid), comments, options, postmeta, usermeta and termmeta all go through one PHP path, limited to rows that contain the URL. Serialized values, including serialized scalars and nested serialized strings, are unserialized, rewritten recursively through arrays and stdClass, and re-serialized in their original shape. siteurl/home are skipped because defineSiteUrl owns them.
  • Serialized values are unserialized with allowed_classes => ['stdClass'], so no plugin class hooks run. A value that holds any other object, or fails to unserialize, is left exactly as stored.

#2989 mentioned eventually moving to the WordPress-importer URL rewriting pipeline. This change keeps to the step's current self-contained PHP and doesn't block that.

Testing Instructions (or ideally a Blueprint)

New test: should rewrite a non-scoped source site URL with a subdirectory. The source site has siteurl set to http://build-host.example/wp and no manifest. After import:

  • post content (both plain and escaped forms), post meta, and a nested serialized option all point at the new site URL
  • a sibling path that only shares the old URL as a prefix (/wp-other) is unchanged
  • a serialized scalar and a double-serialized string stay serialized, with correct lengths
  • a serialized object of an unloaded plugin class is byte-identical

A mutation check that removes the boundary rule makes this test fail.

The existing scope tests pass unchanged.

npx nx run playground-blueprints:test:vite locally on Node 24.18: import-wordpress-files.spec.ts passes 18/18, including after the review fixes. The rest of the blueprints suite passes, apart from enableMultisite and one v2 conformance test, which timed out while the machine was heavily loaded. They pass when run on their own, and they don't use this step. nx run playground-blueprints:lint and Prettier are clean.

Manual check: import a zip whose database siteurl is a non-Playground host:

{ "steps": [ { "step": "importWordPressFiles", "wordPressFilesZip": { "resource": "url", "url": "<zip>" } } ] }

Image and link URLs in posts now resolve against the Playground site.

AI assistance: Yes. A Homeboy agent-task Cook wrote the first implementation and test from a design brief, using Claude Sonnet 5.5 (Anthropic) and gpt-6-luna (OpenAI) through the Roadie pool. Claude (Pi) addressed the CodeRabbit review findings. Claude Opus (Pi) reviewed the diff, fixed the test so it really covers the escaped-slash form, ran the suite, and opened this PR for @chubes4. Homeboy's automated finalization was blocked by an unrelated toolchain issue (Extra-Chill/homeboy#16024), so the PR was opened directly.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • WordPress imports now update matching old site URLs in posts, comments, options, and metadata, including escaped URLs and nested serialized values.
    • URL matching avoids changing unrelated addresses that share only the old URL’s prefix, and handles trailing slashes consistently.
    • Settings that cannot be safely rewritten remain unchanged, and the siteurl and home options are not modified.

…iles

importWordPressFiles only swapped the /scope:…/ path segment, so a site
built on a regular WordPress host kept that host in post content, meta,
options and comments. Replace the full old site URL instead, in both its
plain and JSON slash-escaped forms. Options and meta are rewritten
inside their unserialized values so serialized lengths stay valid.

📝 Walkthrough

The WordPress import step now replaces matching source site URLs in supported database values. It handles plain and slash-escaped URLs, including URLs in safe serialized values. A test covers importing an archive without an export manifest.

Changes: WordPress import URL replacement

Layer / File(s) Summary
Replace URLs in imported database values
packages/playground/blueprints/src/lib/steps/import-wordpress-files.ts, packages/playground/blueprints/src/tests/steps/import-wordpress-files.spec.ts
The import step normalizes source and target URLs and searches for plain and slash-escaped forms across posts, comments, options, and metadata. It recursively rewrites safe serialized values. It excludes siteurl and home, and leaves unsafe serialized values unchanged. The test checks replacements in an archive without a manifest, including that a sibling URL and an object of an unloaded class remain unchanged.

Imported content keeps a few links to the old host when the URL ends a sentence with a period. This is a bounded edge case, so the change is mergeable, but the lookahead is worth adjusting.

Explanation

The changes satisfy issue #4436. replaceSiteUrl handles non-Playground source URLs, including URLs inferred from siteurl. The rewrite covers posts, comments, options, postmeta, usermeta, and termmeta. It rewrites plain and JSON slash-escaped forms. Serialized values are recursively rewritten and re-serialized. siteurl and home remain under defineSiteUrl. The added test covers the inferred subdirectory case, escaped content, metadata, nested serialization, serialized scalars, and boundary preservation.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check

Explanation

The changes stay within issue #4436. The source changes update URL rewriting in importWordPressFiles, and the test adds focused coverage for the requested import behavior. The changes do not implement the unrelated future importer-pipeline migration.

- Match the old URL only at a URL boundary in every column, so
  http://example.com leaves http://example.com.au alone.
- Re-serialize serialized scalars and nested serialized strings.
- Leave serialized values holding non-stdClass objects exactly as stored,
unserializing with allowed_classes => stdClass so no plugin hooks run.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Allow a trailing sentence period after a matched URL.

The negative lookahead (?![A-Za-z0-9_.:-]) rejects any . after the match. Post and comment text often ends a sentence with the site URL, for example Visit http://example.com/wp.. That occurrence stays on the source host, which conflicts with the goal of rewriting every stored occurrence of the old site URL.

A host or path continues only when a character follows the dot, as in .au. Reject . only when an alphanumeric character follows it.
