🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick winResolve parent links before journaling filesystem entries.
mkdirrecords the unresolved path.OpfsRewriter.processEntrythen creates those parent components in OPFS, including a saved directory-link path. On the next mount, the real directory conflicts withFS.symlink.
FS.openresolves parent links before its O_CREAT call, sofile_put_contentsdoes not reproduce the raw-path case. Add a regression test formkdirbelow a saved directory link, flush, and remount.🐛 Suggested fix

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Do not fail the whole mount when one saved link conflicts with restored entries.
Physical OPFS entries and the link index are written separately. An interrupted flush can leave OPFS in either of these states:
CREATE filereplaces a link, but the index still lists the link. OPFS then has a real file and an index entry at the same path.- A directory rename is copied and the old directory is removed, but the old index is still in place. The index then lists links whose parent directory no longer exists.
In both cases, FS.symlink throws EEXIST or ENOENT. copyOpfsToMemfs rejects, and the saved site cannot mount again. The user has no workaround. Real entries are written before the index, so prefer the real entry. Log the skipped link and continue.

A link such as
plugin -> ../shared/plugincurrently gets saved as a copy of its target. Broken links are lost, links to directories can loop, and new links are missing from the filesystem journal. This draft stores link paths and raw target strings in
.playground-symlinks.jsonat the mount root. OPFS has file and directory entries, but no symlink entries. The saved link has no physical entry beside the JSON index. Restore copies real files and directories first, then recreates the links in PHP.{ "version": 1, "links": { "/wp-content/plugins/demo": "../../shared/demo" } }Keys start at the mount root. Targets are unchanged. Relative targets, absolute targets, broken links, and cycles all survive a save and reload.
The journal now records link creation and rename targets, and emits records only after a filesystem call succeeds. Failed moves must not delete saved paths. Directory moves stay in the normalized journal even when child writes are rewritten to the new path. Mount cleanup unlinks directory links without deleting their targets. Replay waits for the initial copy. Link edits save the index once per journal batch. A failed index write stays pending without replaying completed file operations.
Format and compatibility
The reserved root filename and its use for local-folder mounts still need review. The shared directory-handle code uses the same JSON format for both. Local folders get this file rather than native host symlinks.
An existing PHP file at the reserved path is rejected. Invalid indexes also fail the mount. Older Playground versions will load the index as an ordinary file and will not restore these links. Older journal receivers cannot replay the new
symlinkoperations.Existing saves that copied link targets have lost the original target strings. This PR cannot reconstruct them. Recreate the link and save again.
Performance
Batched index writes reduced a 100-link flush from 84 ms to 17 ms, and a 1,000-link flush from 857 ms to 160 ms. Each batch writes the index once. These are medians of nine paired runs in real OPFS, in a Chromium worker on an M4 Max. Ordinary file saves were nearly unchanged.
The index is saved at the end of each batch. Closing the tab mid-flush can still leave files and the index at different stages; batching keeps the index pending for longer. This does not add recovery after a tab crash. Failed writes remain retryable while the mount is alive.
Testing
Create a file, a relative link to it, a broken link, and a link to
.. Save the site and reopen it. Check thatreadlink()returns each original target. Write through a link, move a directory containing links, delete a link, then reopen the site again.Verified locally: 357 unit tests, a Chromium round trip using real OPFS, package builds, type checks, and lint.
