Summary

Implements Track 2 of #4408 to improve AI web crawler indexing and structured entity discovery on playground.wordpress.net and my.wordpress.net:

  • Added robots.txt (website/public/robots.txt & personal-wp/public/robots.txt): Explicitly allows AI web crawlers (GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-Web, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, Applebot-Extended) and references /llms.txt.
  • Added Schema.org WebApplication JSON-LD (website/index.html & personal-wp/index.html): Provides explicit structured metadata (applicationCategory, operatingSystem, free offers, author organization WordPress.org, softwareHelp, featureList, and sameAs entity links to GitHub, WordPress.org, Docs, and npm).
  • Added semantic <noscript> summary inside <main id="root">: Ensures non-JS HTML fetchers and AI crawlers index a semantic description of WordPress Playground (Query API, Blueprints, WebMCP, and doc links) instead of only seeing the in-app browser #wkwebview-notice dialog.
  • Enriched packages/playground/website/public/manifest.json: Expands the PWA description and categories.

📝 Walkthrough

My WordPress and WordPress Playground now include structured application metadata, no-JavaScript descriptions, and crawler directives. The Playground manifest description and categories also change.

Changes: Site metadata and crawler access

Layer / File(s) Summary
Application metadata and fallback content
packages/playground/personal-wp/index.html, packages/playground/website/index.html
Both pages add JSON-LD application metadata and a <noscript> description with relevant links. The My WordPress page also hides its loading screen when JavaScript is disabled.
Crawler directives and app manifest
packages/playground/personal-wp/public/robots.txt, packages/playground/website/public/robots.txt, packages/playground/website/public/manifest.json, packages/playground/website/src/lib/pwa-manifest.spec.ts
Both robots.txt files allow crawler access and reference an AI-readable site index. The Playground manifest updates its description and categories, and its configuration test no longer checks the categories array.

Priority: ⬇️ Low

Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~10 minutes

Change: Feature

Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to c5de0

The site metadata and crawler index reference appear usable. Restore the manifest category assertion to protect the new categories; this is a bounded follow-up rather than a production blocker.

Publish the referenced index or remove the reference.

packages/playground/personal-wp/public/robots.txt references https://my.wordpress.net/llms.txt, but the personal-site build copies only the remote and personal-wp outputs. The only llms.txt file is under website/public, so it is not included in this build. Add it to a copied input or remove the reference.

Restore the static manifest categories assertion.

pwa-manifest.spec.ts reads public/manifest.json, but its matcher no longer checks manifest.categories. Changes to any of the five intended categories can therefore pass this test undetected.
