Makes the select labels in list table toolbars visible and persistent: Bulk actions, date, category, post format, comment type, change role, media type and link category. Each label and its select share a .tablenav-filter wrapper, and the toolbar groups wrap as flex rows, so a label never separates from its select and the Filter button stays last on screen and in tab order.

Also restores the Links filter label, empty since 5.7 because link_category had no filter_by_item label. Builds on the label changes in #10887 (props @Vedanshmini26). Plugins adding visible-label filters through restrict_manage_posts can use the same wrapper.

  • npm run test:php -- --group admin, taxonomy, link (single site and multisite)
  • Posts, Media (list view), Users, Comments and Links at 1512px, 1024px and 760px: labels beside their selects, wrapped rows spaced, Filter button last
  • Screen reader: each select announced with its visible label
  • RTL

Test using WordPress Playground

The changes in this pull request can previewed and tested using a WordPress Playground instance.

WordPress Playground is an experimental project that creates a full WordPress instance entirely within the browser.

Some things to be aware of

  • All changes will be lost when closing a tab with a Playground instance.
  • All changes will be lost when refreshing the page.
  • A fresh instance is created each time the link below is clicked.
  • Every time this pull request is updated, a new ZIP file containing all changes is created. If changes are not reflected in the Playground instance,
it's possible that the most recent build failed, or has not completed. Check the list of workflow runs to be sure.

For more details about these limitations and more, check out the Limitations page in the WordPress Playground documentation.
