Part of #82932.
What?
When Xdebug is turned on and the environment's PHP version is
7.x,wp-envnow installsxdebug-3.1.6instead of the latest Xdebug release (packages/env/lib/init-config.js). Other PHP versions, and an unset PHP version, still install the latest release. Why?
pecl install xdebugwith no version resolves to the newest Xdebug release, and every release from3.2.0onward declaresphp >= 8.0.0in its PECL metadata, so on a PHP 7 image the install fails:3.1.6is the newest release whose PECL metadata supports PHP 7.2–7.4. This branch only installs Xdebug when it is turned on (wp-env start --xdebug, or anxdebugconfig), which no CI job does, so this fixes local development on PHP 7 and does not change CI.How?
Ports the Xdebug part of #50490, which made
wp-envinstallxdebug-3.1.6on PHP 7 (wp/6.3and newer have it). The rest of #50490 (Dockerfile restructuring, PHPUnit defaults, docs) isn't needed. TheRUNline matches #50490's, andinstallXdebug()now takes the config so it can read the development PHP version, the same onecheckXdebugPhpCompatibility()already validates. Adds apackages/envchangelog entry.wp/5.8makes the same change in #84446.Use of AI Tools
