Turning on responsive editing and choosing which viewport to view both lived
in the View menu as checkmarked items, so the menu could show two checkmarks
that meant different things: the viewport being looked at, and responsive
editing being on. The checklist also suggested several viewports could be
selected at once, when only one can.
Offer the viewports as radio menu items, which say that one at a time is
selected, and keep "Responsive styles" a checkbox item, which now reads as a
different kind of thing. The menu is rebuilt with the `Menu` component of
`@wordpress/ui`, following the more menu and the mode switcher.
Along the way:
- `PostPreviewMenuItem` becomes a link item, since a legacy `MenuItem` inside
the popup is not reachable by keyboard. It keeps the `wp-preview-{id}` window
its click handler reuses, and falls back to a disabled item for an unsaveable
post, which the link item has no state for.
- Plugin fills route through the item the more menu already shares with them,
which the `as` deprecation of `PluginPreviewMenuItem` anticipated.
- The menu is named "View" after its trigger. Base UI names the popup from the
trigger, which took precedence over the "View options" label it carried.
- `Menu.Root` renders no element, so the wrapper the toggle was styled through
is gone and its rules move onto the button.
- Drop the unused `editor-preview-dropdown--{device}` class, the `icon` of each
viewport choice, which `MenuItemsChoice` discarded, and the header rule
keeping `MenuItemsChoice` check icons, whose last use in the header was this
menu.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Exercise the preview action, not only its markup.
This test checks the anchor attributes but never clicks the item. It would still pass if the migrated Menu.LinkItem stopped opening the named window or navigating after __unstableSaveForPreview() resolves. Mock window.open, click the item, and assert the named-window and navigation behavior.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Gate the "View site" item on a resolved homeUrl.
homeUrl reads home from the root/__unstableBase entity record. That record is undefined until it resolves, so the first render of the menu can pass href={ undefined } to Menu.LinkItem. An anchor without href is not focusable and not activatable, so the item and its separator render but do nothing.
Include homeUrl in the render condition.

Yeah, it's same PR 😄 |

Oh wow! I missed this. I’m sorry about that. Burn it with fire. Closing out! |
What?
See #81226
Rebuilds the editor's View menu with the
Menucomponent of@wordpress/ui, and offers the viewport options as radio menu items instead of a list of checkmarked items.cc @ciampo, who suggested radio menu items and asked to be pinged on a PR trying the new component out.
Why?
As reported in #81226, turning responsive editing on and choosing which viewport to look at both lived in this one menu as checkmarked items. The checklist implied being able to be in multiple modes at once and the presentation also implied several viewports could be selected at once, when only one can:
@ramonjd asked whether a control that enforces single selection could be used, and @ciampo answered that this is what radio menu items in a menu are for. @talldan noted the menu already used
MenuItemsChoice, which enforces single selection but renders it as check marks, and asked whether there was a plan to switch to the new component. How?
PreviewDropdownmoves fromDropdownMenu+MenuItemsChoicetoMenu.Root/Menu.Trigger/Menu.Popup, following the more menu (#81564) and the mode switcher:Menu.RadioGroup+Menu.RadioItem, so single selection is shown by radio dots.Menu.CheckboxItem, which now read as a different kind of thing from the viewport group.Menu.Separator, and View site becomes aMenu.LinkItem.The item defaults happen to match the old behaviour exactly: Base UI's radio and checkbox items keep the menu open on click, while plain and link items close it, which is what the old
onClosewiring did by hand.A few things worth reviewer attention:
PostPreviewMenuItemis migrated too. A legacyMenuIteminside a Base UI popup renders amenuitemthe menu's composite doesn't know about, so it isn't keyboard reachable. It keeps the namedwp-preview-{id}window its click handler reuses (via arenderanchor, as inpackages/ui/src/breadcrumb/link-item.tsx), and falls back to a disabledMenu.Itemfor an unsaveable post, sinceMenu.LinkItemhas no disabled state.openInNewTab. That appends "(opens in a new tab)" to the accessible name, which only repeats a label already reading "Preview in new tab" — and it would replace the named window with_blank. View site does use it, matching theVisuallyHiddentext it had before.aria-labelledbyon the popup pointing at the trigger, which takes precedence over anaria-labelof its own. The more menu behaves the same way.asdeprecation ofPluginPreviewMenuItem(Editor: Deprecate theasprop of the plugin menu item components #82319) anticipated.Menu.Rootrenders no element, so the wrapper the toggle was styled through is gone; its rules move onto the button, including the distraction-free hide rule inheader/style.scss.Also removed, all dead: the
editor-preview-dropdown--{device}class, theiconon each viewport choice (MenuItemsChoicediscarded it in favour of the check mark), and the header rule keepingMenuItemsChoicecheck icons visible, whose last use in the header was this menu.Testing Instructions
