What?

The note actions menu (⋮) no longer gets pushed out of view when the note author has a long display name.

Why?

The issue was reported as "no way to reopen a resolved note without adding a comment". A "Reopen" action does already exist in the note's ⋮ menu — the problem is that the menu wasn't reachable.

The byline is a flex row (avatar, name/date column, actions menu). The name column keeps the default min-width: auto, so it can't shrink below the intrinsic width of a long unbreakable display name. That pushes the actions menu past the thread's right edge, and .editor-collab-sidebar-panel__thread has overflow: hidden, so the button is clipped instead of just overflowing.

Measured in a 280px sidebar: a 4-character name is fine, a 25-character name pushes the menu 4px past the row edge, and it grows from there.

How?

Added overflow-wrap: anywhere to .editor-collab-sidebar-panel__user-name.

anywhere (rather than break-word) is what matters here: it reduces the element's min-content width, which is what allows the flex column to shrink so the actions menu stays inside the thread.

Styling the name avoids depending on the generated class name of the Stack wrapper from @wordpress/ui, which isn't stable.

Testing Instructions

Create a user with a long display name, e.g. userwithalooooooonghandle (25+ characters).
As that user, add a note to a block in a post.
Look at the note's byline in the notes sidebar.

Before: the ⋮ actions button is pushed to the edge and clipped, so the menu can't be opened.
After: the button stays inside the thread and the menu opens normally.

To confirm the reported symptom is resolved: resolve the note, then open the ⋮ menu on it and confirm "Reopen" is available.

Testing Instructions for Keyboard

Open the notes sidebar and Tab to a note authored by a user with a long display name.
Tab to the ⋮ actions button and press Enter.
Confirm the menu opens and its items are reachable with the arrow keys.

@hanneslsm, I agree consistency is the key. Though truncating important data can be problematic, we should also consider this when developing guidelines.

I think this is good to merge. However, would appreciate a quick sanity check from the @WordPress/gutenberg-design team.

P.S. This problem exists since we shipped a feature, so it's not a WP 7.1 bug. We need to test the UI more with longer strings (or German translations 😄).

The issue has not been resolved in my environment.

It seems applying flex: 1 to the container can fix this.

A long author display name set the min-content width of the byline column, pushing the actions menu past the thread edge where it was clipped, making the menu (and the Reopen action inside it) unreachable. Fixes #81411
