Do you think this option is useful? It feels like if edits are cleared the user should be given the possibility to redo (to apply them back) no?

I think this option is useful because it gives developers the freedom to design the user experience. For example, if I want to ensure that a user either saves or discards their changes, I wouldn’t want discarded changes to appear in the undo history.

But for me, this UX means we need something clear the whole undo history and not just the "clearing of the edits" which would result in a weird undo stack.

Could you clarify what you mean by “clear the whole undo history”? What exactly should be additionally discarded?
For example, I created a test case using a post where the saved version has "test" as the post content.
I tested the behavior with undoIgnore set to both true and false.
Now, imagine that instead of using the JavaScript console, a modal is displayed prompting the user to either save or discard changes. When undoIgnore is set to true, the behavior matches expectations: once the user discards the changes, they cannot restore them using undo.

Could you clarify what you mean by “clear the whole undo history”? What exactly should be additionally discarded?
The whole undo history.
Imagine I type something in the title, than I add a block, then I click "discard changes", then I click "undo". With the option turned on, in the last call (when clearing edits), it means that if I do "undo" at that point, I'll end up in a weird state where I go from "no edits" to just the "title" change for instance. While ideally the "undo" should either restore the cleared edits (so both title and block) or don't do anything (clearing the whole history).

Ah, right! I implemented a new action to the undoManager that allows clearing the history given an id (e9156b4).

Yes, the issue is this logic in editEntityRecord:

To clean up an editedEntity, we need to make the values of all the changes undefined. According to the logic above, when ...edits[ key ] is undefined, ...editedRecord[ key ] will not be replaced.

Noting that this'll be tricky to implement when RTC is enabled, as the Yjs undo manager doesn't work this way.
We use the multidocundomanager to allow for multiple entities to be edited at the same time, and have Yjs track the undo/redo stack without much effort from us. All we'd do is call the undo/redo action and let it handle what needs to be done.
All this to say that, this would require testing and digging into to see how this behaves when RTC is enabled.

I would rather not make this harder in this moment, so maybe for now we can omit the undoIgnore option for now and implement it later. What do you think? @youknowriad

That would be my preference. I think if we need to clear undo, it needs to be a separate action anyway as for me it has nothing to do with clearEntityRecordEdits.

There's no straightforward way to discard in-progress edits to an entity record. Passing the clean `record` back through `editEntityRecord` fails due to shape mismatches (e.g., title as `{rendered, raw}` vs plain string).This adds a
