Custom States -Current State for Navigation Links - missing: text color + effect for page list + does not work #85380

Open

Description

Description

1.) According to "Help Test WP 7.2" instructions there should be the possibility to apply a distinct text color for "active" state, but there is no option for this in the UI of the navigation link.
2.) In the navigation block the page-list is standard content. But the new state aware formatting of the navigation link does - at least now - not effect the content of this page list. So the effect of "display your actual position in the website" does not really work.
3.) The whole described effect for the current page does not seem to work/exist?

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  1. Goto Design => Editor => Styles => Blocks => Navigation Link
  2. Try to change text color => Nno option in the UI!
  3. Change something else as "Standard" => works for links, but not for page list
  4. Change something else only for state "active" => effect while click, but no permanent display matching the currently viewed page

    Color support hasn't been added to Navigation link yet; it's in progress in #83457 which has missed the cutoff for 7.2. I'm afraid that's a mistake in the testing post. It's also incorrect to conflate the "current" with the "active" state; they are different states. I don't believe that the UI to style "current" has been implemented yet. Cc @annezazu and @MaggieCabrera for confirmation.

    The Page list issue is something that needs a decision - because technically Page list doesn't contain Nav link blocks, but is its own block, we'd need some extra (messy) logic to apply styles from Nav link to it. I'm tempted to say the easier solution would be to not default the initial stage of Nav block to a Page list, but there are also valid reasons for doing that. As with anything Nav-related 😅 there doesn't seem to be a straightforward solution to this.

    I've followed up with the folks working on the testing post to resolve this and do a thorough review of the individual steps. Thanks for flagging this.

    The UI hasn't landed for -current per: #78769
