Omnibar: WP 7.2 Iteration Issue #82723
Description
Overall Goal
Polish the visual of the classic PHP admin screens, including the admin bar, to align more with the Editor screens.
Scope for This Release
The focus of this iteration is to replace the Dashicons with SVG icons. See: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/09/04/replacing-dashicons-in-the-admin-bar-and-menu/
If time permits, we'll also add more tasks to polish the admin bar.

- Replace Dashicons in wp-admin with SVG icons (Trac)
- Free up horizontal space on the right side of the admin bar (Trac)

Update Sept 29
Administration: Replace Dashicons icon font with @wordpress/icons SVG components in wp-admin
It's close! We have just merged required backend changes to use SVG icons in the admin screens:
We also polished some icons:
I believe the list of icons to use is now finalized. We just need to wait until GB 24.1 is released AND synced to Core. Then, rebase the main Core PR:
, test and ship it.

Administration: Replace Dashicons icon font with @wordpress/icons SVG components in wp-admin
GB 24.1 is already released. In the main PR Aki is offering help to sync GB 24.1. And there is also one backport PR which needs to be merged; I'll help take a look.
Toolbar: free horizontal space on the right side
There's no pushback in the Trac ticket. We've done a few rounds of comments and fixes in the PR. I think it's close to shipping.
We also just added a couple new Trac tickets for improving node consistency, though we need to check whether it will fit in the 7.2 timeline:
