Image Block: Visual jerk/flash when changing style to "Rounded" #77830
Description:
When changing the style of an Image block from "Default" to "Rounded", there is a noticeable visual glitch/jerk in the editor. The image briefly renders as a full circle (fully rounded) before abruptly snapping to slightly rounded corners.
Step-by-step reproduction instructions
Step-by-step reproduction instructions:
Open the block editor and add an Image block.
Select an image.
In the block settings sidebar, switch the Style from "Default" to "Rounded".
Observe the image border-radius.
Expected behavior:
The image should change to the rounded style instantly (or smoothly) without any intermediate flashing or jerky state.
Actual behavior:
The image shows a visual jerk. It first becomes fully rounded (as a circle/pill) for a split second, and then immediately transitions/snaps to having only slightly rounded corners.

Hi @vishnupprajapat, Could you please share any screencast on how you were able to reproduce the issue? On my end I am unable to reproduce the issue with the above mentioned steps.
I was unable to reproduce the issue on my end using the steps provided.
I would suggest updating your environment to the latest trunk version, as you might be user an older version the current version is 7.1-alpha. Additionally, the rounded image option sets the border-radius to 50%, whereas in the video you shared, the effect looks much less pronounced. This suggests there might be an active plugin or theme conflict affecting the block rendering. Could you please check if there are any other plugins or custom styles affecting the Image block?
Tested on Gutenberg trunk as of [today's date] —
cannot reproduce this anymore. The style switch from
Default to Rounded appears smooth with no visual flash.
The reason you might not be seeing the issue on your current setup is that this visual jitter is highly theme-dependent.
In themes like Twenty Twenty-Four, the theme overrides the default Gutenberg border-radius: 9999px circle with a different custom border-radius (like 20px). The browser briefly paints the circle before snapping to the theme's style. If your local test environment is using a theme that does not override border-radius the flash won't be visible.
Could you try switching your test environment to the Twenty Twenty-Four theme? 😇
I tested it with the Twenty Twenty-Four theme as well, and the issue is still reproducible there on my side. Interestingly, I could not reproduce it with Twenty Twenty-Five, Twenty Twenty-Three, or Twenty Twenty-Two — those themes seem to handle the transition correctly.
