Proposal: Make the search input in the Block Inserter sticky #71995

Description

When selecting blocks in the block inserter panel, the search input currently scrolls out of view as users browse through the available blocks. This can disrupt the workflow, especially when dealing with long lists of blocks, as users need to scroll back up to access the search bar.

Proposed Solution

Make the search input in the block inserter panel sticky, so it remains visible at the top of the panel while scrolling. This ensures that users can always access the search functionality without having to scroll back to the top, resulting in a smoother and more efficient user experience.

A working patch has already been developed and is available for review in this Pull Request: #70289

The PR implements the sticky behavior and is ready for feedback from the maintainers.

Benefits

  • Improved Usability: The search input is always accessible, making it easier to find and insert blocks quickly.
  • Enhanced Workflow: Reduces unnecessary scrolling and keeps key controls within easy reach.
  • Consistency: Aligns with common UX patterns found in modern interfaces, where search bars are often fixed in place.

This is a common usability improvement seen in many applications with searchable lists. It would be a quality-of-life enhancement for all users, particularly those working with a large number of blocks.
