Disable AI Settings When No Connector Is Configured or Credentials Are Removed #534

Description

Problem

Currently, the AI settings page correctly disables all settings when no connector is configured. This prevents users from updating settings without an active connector, which is the expected behavior.

However, there is an issue with the state handling after a connector is removed.

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  1. Open the AI settings page without configuring any connector.
  2. Verify that all settings are disabled.
  3. Configure a connector with valid credentials.
  4. Update any AI settings successfully.
  5. Remove the connector credentials/configuration.
  6. Revisit the AI settings page.

Current Behavior

The settings remain editable even after the connector has been removed.

Expected Behavior

When no connector is configured — including after removing connector credentials — all AI settings should return to the disabled state, preventing users from updating settings until a valid connector is configured again.

Suggested Fix

Revalidate the connector setup status when the AI settings page is loaded (or when connector credentials are removed) and ensure the disabled state is applied whenever no active connector is available.

This is actually not true. We don't disable any settings based on a connector being properly configured or not. We do output an admin notice if there either isn't any connector in place or there's a connector in place but the credentials aren't valid.

But we always allow users to turn on and configure individual features regardless of if there's a connector (this is a purposeful decision that's been discussed multiple times).

I think in your case what you're seeing is there's a global enable/disable toggle for the AI plugin. By default that is toggled off and in that case, individual features can't be turned on. But once you toggle that on, features can be turned on and configured even if there aren't any AI connectors.
