## 󠀁[Getting access](https://make.wordpress.org/docs/handbook/workflows/user-documentation-process-before-a-major-version-release/?output_format=md#getting-access)󠁿

To write updates to documentation, access is needed to the HelpHub site. You can
either join in the [Slack #docs channel](https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C02RP4WU5)
explaining how you want to help with updates or upload your updates to the [Release Project](https://github.com/orgs/WordPress/projects/286/views/1)
in GitHubGitHub GitHub is a website that offers online implementation of git repositories
that can easily be shared, copied and modified by other developers. Public repositories
are free to host, private repositories require a paid subscription. GitHub introduced
the concept of the ‘pull request’ where code changes done in branches by contributors
can be reviewed and discussed before being merged by the repository owner. [https://github.com/](https://github.com/)

Why is this a problem?

The docs team does not usually grant access. So this creates a hurdle by inviting people to ask in slack first, when they'll just be told to use Github instead.

Suggested Fix

If the team typically will not grant access, change that whole section to something like this:

## How to contribute
All documentation work for a release is drafted and tracked in the [Release Project on GitHub](https://github.com/orgs/WordPress/projects/286/views/1). There are a few ways to contribute your writing:

- **Draft directly in a GitHub issue.** This is the most common path and keeps everything in one place for review. It works best for small changes.
- **Write in a Google Doc** and share the link in the relevant GitHub issue. This is a good option if you're writing a new page.

Once drafts are reviewed and approved, a Documentation team member with HelpHub access will handle publishing.

HelpHub editing access is limited to established Documentation team members who regularly contribute to the team's work. If you're interested in taking on more responsibility over time, including publishing, keep contributing through GitHub and participating in [#docs](https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C02RP4WU5) so the team gets to know your work.
