What happened?
System: slackware64-current, gcc 15.1.0, kernel 6.15.{3,4,5,6,7}. Installers used:
VirtualBox-7.1.10-169112-Linux_amd64.run
VirtualBox-7.1.12-169651-Linux_amd64.run << Currently installed. Files include from this version.
VirtualBox-7.1.13-169671-Linux_amd64.run
VirtualBox-7.2.97_BETA2-169670-Linux_amd64.run
Kernel modules for kernel 6.15.x fail to build. VirtualBox is installed, except for the kernel driver files. Kernel using for resulting files is 6.15.7.
A fellow Slackware user suggesting I add 'objtool=true KCFLAGS="-Wno-error"' to make from the /opt/VirtualBox/src/vboxhost/ directory. This works and modules are built. Moving modules to /lib/modules/6.15.7/misc and follow on reboot, the modules are loaded and VirtualBox works as expected (Slackware Linux and a Windows 10 Guest). There is one issue. See attached syslog-6.15.7-txt
These are the logs from the installation.
output.log
vbox-install.log
vbox-setup.log
These are logs from manual build from /opt/VirtualBox/src/vboxhost/, failed and successful. Also included is an extract from /var/log/syslog/ "Unpatched return thunk in use. This should not happen!" These entries show after a reboot and only after the applied "fix", does not happen with 6.14.11 or 6.12.39. I have removed the date/time stamps.
make-by-it-self.log
make-with-fix.log
syslog-6.15.7.txt
I am currently running with kernel 6.14.11, this and kernel 6.12.39 have no issues only with kernel 6.15.x.
How can we reproduce this?
Run the installer. or run make from /opt/VirtualBox/src/vboxhost/
Did you upload all of your necessary log files, screenshots, etc.?
