What changed

  • Removed the Selenium IDE card from the homepage. The getting-started-item card row is a shared
layout, so the card was removed from _index.en.html and _index.ja.html, _index.pt-br.html,
_index.zh-cn.html, _index.other.html. Leaving the card in only some languages would have been
inconsistent; this is the one deliberate exception to the English-only rule.
  • Removed the "Selenium IDE" section from the Downloads page (layouts/downloads/list.html).
  • Removed the "If you wish to start with a low-code/record and playback tool, please check Selenium IDE"
    sentence from documentation/webdriver/getting_started/_index.en.md.
  • Moved documentation/ide.{en,ja,pt-br,zh-cn}.md to documentation/legacy/ide.*.md (git rename, content
otherwise unchanged) with aliases: ["/documentation/ide/"] so the old URLs (/documentation/ide/,
/ja/documentation/ide/, ...) still resolve via Hugo alias redirects, and a one-line pageinfo warning
at the top: "Selenium IDE is no longer maintained by the Selenium project. This page is kept for
reference." Weight set to 9 so it sits next to the existing "Legacy Selenium IDE" section.
  • Removed /documentation/ide from the curated list in layouts/index.llms.txt. Pages under
documentation/legacy/ are already excluded from the drift check, so the build is clean.
  • The navbar/hugo.toml menus and netlify.toml contained no IDE entries or /selenium-ide redirect,
so nothing to change there. The docs sidebar is generated from the content tree; the IDE page now
    appears only under Legacy.

Why

Plan item A5: Selenium IDE is no longer maintained by the project and should not be presented as a
first-class component on the homepage, Downloads page, Getting Started page or the docs top level.
The reference page is kept (under Legacy, with its old URL aliased) so existing links do not break.

Acceptance criteria

  • IDE card removed from the homepage (all language homepages; see note above).
  • IDE section removed from Downloads.
  • No IDE link in navbar / hugo.toml menus / docs sidebar top level (none existed in navbar or
menus; sidebar entry now only under Legacy).
  • documentation/ide.en.md moved to documentation/legacy/ide.en.md with alias
/documentation/ide/ and the "no longer maintained" note. Verified the generated
    documentation/ide/index.html is a meta-refresh to /documentation/legacy/ide/.
  • llms.txt no longer lists IDE; build prints no WARN/ERROR.
  • Getting Started sentence pointing low-code users at IDE removed.
  • netlify.toml checked: no /selenium-ide redirect exists, so none to update.

Translated pages affected

  • website_and_docs/content/_index.ja.html, _index.pt-br.html, _index.zh-cn.html, _index.other.html
(IDE card removed; no other text changed).
  • website_and_docs/content/documentation/legacy/ide.ja.md, ide.pt-br.md, ide.zh-cn.md (moved with
alias; the one-line "no longer maintained" note was added in English and needs translating).
  • documentation/webdriver/getting_started/_index.{ja,pt-br,zh-cn}.md still contain the Selenium IDE
sentence and need the same removal.
  • Not changed, but worth a follow-up: documentation/overview/_index.en.md still has an "IDE" section
describing the IDE as "generally the most efficient way to develop test cases".

Checks run

  • Site build (Hugo, vendored Docsy) completes with no WARN or ERROR lines.
  • Verified in generated output: no "Selenium IDE" on index.html or downloads/index.html; alias
redirect pages generated for /documentation/ide/ and /ja/documentation/ide/; llms.txt has no
IDE entry; legacy page renders the warning note.

Selenium IDE is no longer maintained by the project, so stop promoting
it as a first-class component.

- Remove the IDE card from the homepage. The card layout is shared, so
it is removed from every language homepage for consistency.
- Remove the IDE section from the Downloads page.
- Remove the "low-code" pointer to Selenium IDE from the WebDriver
  Getting Started page.
- Move documentation/ide.* under documentation/legacy/ with an alias so
/documentation/ide/ (and the translated URLs) still resolve, and add
a note that the page is kept for reference only.
- Drop /documentation/ide from the curated llms.txt index; pages under
documentation/legacy/ are excluded from the index by design.

No navbar menu or netlify redirect referenced Selenium IDE, so there was
nothing to change there.

Superseded: the Phase 1 items are being regrouped into one PR per workstream to make the layout easier to review as a whole. This branch's commit is carried over unchanged.
