Make sure you are using a HDMI cable or dongle with a VMM7100 chipset in it - that should relay DDC properly. Many USB-C to HDMI converter's don't (Mac will natively output DP over USB-C). |

I have a Dell S2721DGF. To make use of the 165 Hz FreeSync, I must connect it to my gaming machine using DisplayPort. That leaves me with HDMI for my new M4 MacBook.
Of course, I want to control its brightness, volume, and input source. However, none of that works. I can't read or write any DDC data.
Did I buy an overpriced dumb USB-C to HDMI cable that eats AUX/DDC? Or is this a limitation of the M4?
A collegue says he's using MonitorControl on his M3 MacBook with a similar Dell display attached via a Thunderbolt dock that has an HDMI port. Which is just another way of converting DP to HDMI. So it must be possible in principle, right?
