Docs: document JSS on Android (Termux PoC + native APK + PMOS roadmap) #383

Background

Following user feedback on a Reddit thread about JSS running on a phone, the "runs on a phone" claim deserves proper documentation.

Scope

A new guide at jss.live/docs/guides/jss-on-android covering the three-stage path:

1. Today — proof of concept via Termux (works now)

   • Resource footprint (~125 MB, less than a Chrome tab)
   • Install steps (pkg install nodejs-lts && npm install -g javascript-solid-server)
   • Run, persistence (battery optimization, wake-lock, Termux:Boot), storage
   • Public access via --tunnel

2. Coming — native APK (in development)

   • Architecture: Kotlin + libnode.so (nodejs-mobile) + WebView
   • Why feasible: JSS has zero native modules
   • Prior art: Manyverse, Mapeo
   • Tracking: Native Android APK wrapper for JSS (Kotlin + nodejs-mobile, WebView shell) #366

3. Long arc — full OS via postmarketOS

   • JSS as native data layer of an actual phone OS
   • End state for Vision: Solid Pod on Every Phone #46 ("Solid Pod on Every Phone")

Status

Documentation work is in progress in the docs repo (JavaScriptSolidServer/docs). Includes:

• Three-stage guide with image of JSS running on Android
• SVG architecture diagram for the native APK
• Expanded --tunnel section with comparison vs. ngrok / Cloudflare Tunnel / Tailscale
