After recently upgrading to 6.3.12.1 from a previous version, I observed ExifToolGui immediately modifying HEIC files and sometimes changing filenames whenever I selected an HEIC file.
Within the Custom Options Setting I discovered a cryptic string that apparently was the culprit. Clearing the Custom Options field restored the normal behavior.
I have no idea where that string came from. Perhaps from the upgrade process? I certainly did not create it.
IDEA:
Since a Custom Option can cause immediate destructive behavior by simply selecting a file, I suggest adding a flag or notice on the main UI that warns users that a custom option is in effect.
Thank you.
