Shovels and Spades are tools used do dig holes and otherwise move sand and other commodities, not limited to construction sites.

The pre-emoji Unicode document L2/03-354 / N2655 proposed a Spade character to indicate agricultural terms in dictionaries, but unlike other proposals in that document (⚒⚓⚔⚕⚖⚗⚘⚙⚚⚛), many of which later became emojis, the spade wasn’t included (and neither were Compasses #241 nor Plummet #242).
