World champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva revealed she has been dealing with a stalker for over six months, describing the ongoing fear and lack of effective legal recourse.

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: I’ve been stalked by a young man for more than half a year now. He doesn’t let me live a normal life.

Q: How did it start, and how long has this been going on?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Since January of this year. After a show, a man approached my car and asked if he could have coffee with me. I replied, “No, you can’t. Please step away and don’t bother me. I can give you an autograph, no problem, but that’s the maximum.” He nodded and left. But the next day, he came to my car again and persistently asked me to go for coffee with him.

I said, “No, step away.” I tried to get into my car quickly and aggressively, hoping he’d snap out of it. After that, I started to feel afraid, and it was justified, because after the show, during the New Year holidays, this man would stand and wait for me by my car.

Q: Every day?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Yes, the shows were every day. I would leave with security or with some big pair guys – we have some real tough guys there. I’d go out with them to try to scare him off. But nothing helped. When the shows ended, I thought it would stop.

But he found my address, my apartment, and knows where I work. It’s still very scary when you’re sitting alone in your apartment and you get a call from a persistent man who really wants to meet you.

Q: What does he look like? How old is he?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: About thirty. Just an ordinary passerby, let’s say. A person you wouldn’t really notice. Just a typical city man. He doesn’t have any obvious distinguishing features.

Q: What did you do? Did you try to ignore him?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Yes, I tried everything.

Q: And did anything help?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Nothing. Every week he comes and still leaves flowers. There’s nothing I can do about it.

Q: Did you go to the authorities?

Elizaveta Tuktamysheva: Well, I had some acquaintances, and I just asked for advice: would it help or not? I understand that I don’t want to waste time on this for nothing. And they told me: as long as there’s no threat, just flowers, they won’t even consider the case.”
