Two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva explained her decision to undergo rhinoplasty, reflecting on the confidence it brought her and her choice to openly discuss the procedure on her YouTube channel. Here’s a translation of her comments.
Evgenia Medvedeva, a two-time world champion figure skater, shared the story behind her rhinoplasty, a procedure she underwent after encountering both aesthetic dissatisfaction and a sports-related injury. Medvedeva previously revealed that she had nasal surgery after a collision with another skater in Canada during training in 2019.
“The story about my nose is actually pretty short. I never liked my nose – if you look at old photographs and compare them to now, you can judge for yourself which looks better if you want.
The biggest shift in realizing that I might need to do something about it happened after I collided with another skater in Canada. In the end, it turned out that my nasal septum had become misaligned. I know what people might say: ‘Oh, everyone just uses a deviated septum to justify their rhinoplasty!’ And yes, that’s exactly what I did – I found my excuse, my justification. My septum was crooked, and I decided to do something about it: fix the issue and improve my appearance. Functional and beautiful – it’s a win-win.”
Medvedeva reflected on the positive impact the surgery had on her self-esteem:
“Now, I enjoy my appearance. It’s amazing to feel good about yourself when you look in the mirror – it adds a hundred points to your confidence, trust me.”
Addressing why she chose to speak openly about the procedure, Medvedeva explained:
“I’ve never hidden the fact that I had rhinoplasty – I just haven’t been asked about it in the five years since. No one’s ever asked me, ‘Zhenya, did you get your nose done?’ So, I didn’t have to answer.
Why am I talking about it now? Because, in my case, it feels silly to try to hide it – the difference is pretty obvious. Whoever needed to notice already has. They’ve discussed it, moved on, and settled down. So here I am, deciding to share honestly.”
