Not getting the love for the Kylie song , it’s only where it is because of Amazon, let’s see where it gets next year when it’s on every streaming platforms , what happened to all the other Amazon Christmas songs ? They bombed the years after
You could also argue that Kylie is only at number 1 due to the ACR rule.
On a level playing field, Wham! , Mariah and Brenda Lee would be ahead.
The problem with the charts in the streaming era is we've lost track of what people are actually choosing to listen to. Until 10 years or so ago you had to commit to buying a song, either go down the shops and buy the single or later on pay 99p for a download. So it was 'proof' you liked a song.
Whereas now a lot of streams are Amazon firing Kylie at its users and Spotify favouring Wham in their playlists, so there's a lot of passive listens from people who maybe don't even like the songs.
As posted before I prefer a system where songs over 3 years are in a 'retro' chart rather than this ACR fiddling. But I suppose there would have to be rules about sneaky edits and remixes making the song new again. Andrew Ridgley could add a new line to Last Christmas and call it 2026 edition and make the real chart again for example.
I make it that if Kylie is number 1 tonight, she will be the 3rd Australian artist to get the Christmas number 1 after Rolf Harris in 1969 and Nicole Kidman ( with Robbie Williams ) in 2001.

Wouldn't be too much of a fan of that. I like seeing old songs do well in the chart if they're there for a reason (Kate Bush, Sophie Ellis-Bextor etc.) not just for the simple fact that it's Christmas.
Just seen that Kylie hit no4 in Australia which as far as I can see is her first top10 there since 2007. So XMAS has been a surprisingly sucessful venture for her. Crossing my fingers she gets the no1 here!

So pleased for Kylie, she's an amazing artist and a lovely person too.
Didn't think much to the reveal on the phone with Kylie though, was it meant to go like that, even she didn't seem that sure/know what was happening then it cut off to Wham ? ! Lol 😆

Has Spotify been updated?

Radio 1 Chart show finishes at 5.45 so sometime near that time.
The chart show starts at the earlier time of 3pm today.
.
It will also be live streamed on the BBC News website.
17:41. However, the number 2 will be announced at 17:37, so you should then know what the number one is.
