Greg doing Christmas Day Breakfast live is a bit of a surprise. Can't remember the last time the Radio 1 Breakfast show host has done Christmas Day - certainly don't remember Grimmy or Moyles ever doing it.

Moyles has definitely been live on Christmas Day breakfast before but pretty sure it was before he was the actual breakfast presenter. It shows how much he loves radio (and the station itself!)

imagine how disappointing you finally get accepted to this and you find yourself on Radio 1 Anthems

A lot easier though, especially with not having to navigate around news updates. But I'm guessing they are all pre-recorded, so there will be no be interactivity with the audience. Still an amazing experience for them, and gets one foot in the door for other shows in the future.

The chart this coming week is set to start earlier than normal - 3pm rather than 4pm which is presumably down to it being the Christmas chart. The 2026 schedule seems to show it going back to its usual 4pm start time for now.

Which is weird, because with all the highly-streamed oldies (and American songs that Brits only started listening to in large numbers once they outsourced choosing songs to Spotify and Amazon playlists), the Christmas chart is the least-interesting of the year, and contains the fewest core Radio 1 songs. Last Christmas is already number 1 a fortnight before Christmas.

Friday's schedule also shows Greg James finishing at 10:00, with the half-hour anthems 10:00–10:30 presented by Dean McCullough.

No new years anthems this year either, used to love that as they'd focus on a specific year each hour gradually building up to the current one

They are still doing that I believe. The one by year is just on Radio 1 Anthems this year (so not live). So still there if people want it

And ‘New Year Party Anthems’ type show is scheduled as normal on NYE (know that’s not the name now but it’s basically what it is).

It will also be live streamed on the BBC News website.

Not sure how exciting that will be as they don't cue up records on turntables anymore !

They are still doing that I believe. The one by year is just on Radio 1 Anthems this year (so not live). So still there if people want it

Yeah, they are going from 2006 to 2025 from Boxing Day onwards on Radio 1 Anthems only - although it starts from midnight and then just runs continuously 24/7 (rather than just in daytime hours as it used to be on R1 in previous years) so you would probably need to use catch-up on BBC Sounds if you want to hear specific years - and if you want to listen to them all in order it will take 60 hours!

Worth noting there is also the 'Radio 1 Anthems Discovery' series which is focusing on a specific year each episode and runs as part of the normal schedule throughout the year, so might be another option for those who like the anthems shows from a particular year.

Found it, forgot R1A still technically wasn't a proper "radio" station last year so that explains why they still had it on the main station.
Disappointing to see they've moved it, not sure why but it just feels less significant on a substation.

They seem to have decided they want more standard Radio 1 daytime-format output over Xmas/New Year like they used to do, an improvement IMO. With Anthems on DAB now makes sense to me to put the Anthems countdown(up?) there.

It does feel less significant but that's a good thing - no disrespect to the new trial DJs but days on end of anthems presented by inexperienced R1 presenters had become tiresome! Not being live on the Anthems stream will be better for them, and we finally get some proper shows during that week!

Used to like all the live NYE shows from various clubs. Live essential mix from Ibiza and warm up party's in the summer etc.

    He's got flu now

Mylo and Rosie on early breakfast Mon-Wed
Thursday Joel.Mitchell guess planned as Dean doesn't normally do Fridays

Not a regular listeniner, Radio 1 is really rap heavy. Play some good stuff still that you wouldn't get on Capital.

Dean is supposed to be presenting breakfast on Thursday and Friday (which is why Joel is presenting on Thursday),. I would assume Sam and Danni will be if he’s unwell

Don’t think he was ever down for Thursday - schedule never said Greg was off that day.

Yeah Greg said today that Wednesday is his last day until Christmas Day. So I’m assuming Joel being in for Dean was because he’s meant to be in for Greg

Fair enough, last year was incredibly off-schedule from what I remember and the newsbeat segments barely ever started up properly. I know Radio 1 is usually recognised for being bang-on-time with its schedules and little to-no technical issues.

This is what I was thinking when listening to the 'club' Classic Essential Mixes that R1Dance are playing out this month, Sundays' one being Pete (Tong) and Nick Warren (from 'Way Out West' at the time) from a live Essential Mix they did from Plymouth.

Obviously I'm not expecting them to do one every single Friday given the budget restraints put upon them by various factors, but something along the lines of one a month (with maybe a tie up with some of the more famous event organisers like Passion, Groovebox, Document, etc) so Radio 1 can say they are helping reinvigorate the somewhat sad decline of clubbing due to operational costs.
