But the other side of a couple of large hills.
That's why the Salisbury local radio stations have their transmitters on those hills, in order to serve both places
It's amazing that Points West actually managed to find their way out of Bristol.
Never used to back in the day, but these days there are dedicated reporters for Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset.
The same applied on ITV with the former HTV West and their Bristol-centric coverage. When Central TV launched their South Midlands news coverage in 1989, it was a boon to those living in places like Gloucester and Swindon, as it gave them a more local news service, with a dedicated reporter and studios in those towns and then towards the end of the 90s, HTV, like their BBC counterparts, had reporters for Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset.

Indeed. I do think Points West does a pretty good job these days covering Gloucestershire stories, with its county reporter Steve Knibbs. Never been convinced about ITV West's attempt.

Steve's reports also get shown on Midlands Today as well.

Has that always been the arrangement?
I think so, having been up and in the midlands once a while ago and seeing him on the screen.
With the advent of so many alternative ways to get your TV than off an aerial now, I suspect only a minority of people in Gloucestershire would want to watch Midlands Today, when they can get Points West..

When there was BBC Oxford reports where "shared" with BBC's Cambridge (East, West), West and occasionally West Midlands, London and South.
Earlier this year a big fire in Bicester was covered by Midlands reporters.
Years ago a reporter on BBC Radio Oxford said he also reported for Coventry & Warwick and Northampton, he was based in the Banbury area.
Certainly on ITV Wesley Smith (Mr Central South) covers a number of regions and as far as I know is Oxfordshire based.

Yes. In cases where towns/cities cover 2 regions, news reports are taken by the same reporter, but with the region-appropriate sign-off, ie "Steve Knibbs, BBC Points West" and "Steve Knibbs, BBC Midlands Today".
Swindon is another case, where stories from there are covered by Points West and South Today with the appropriate sign-off for each region.
So many comments I would like to say but too numerous to mention.
Any way I think that all of us that have replied to this posting,
would know how to get the BBC regional news station they wanted using freesat or Sky which you can record if you so wish
Its up to each individual to decide which region suits them best
Living in Greater Bristol I watch Points west live ,and have Spotlight on another Telly on sub-titles.
From a radio point of view, not sure why we are saddled(in my opinion) with Dorset and not Devon
when I think more residents in the points west area have a connection with Devon than Dorset

When they got plenty of copy and footage to take and duplicate from the national newsroom, then they will find a way
