Apple Watch 11 issue

Not about mobiles but probably the closest forum I could find.

I upgraded from the 10 to the 11 but quite often (I’d say about 30-40% of the time) when I turn my wrist to check the time, my watch displays the control centre instead which is annoying and pointless, I don’t want that, I want the watch face.

I’ve deactivated gestures (which doesn’t affect the control panel but still) so is there any other way to stop this happening? If I wanted to see the control centre (which I don’t) I’d simply swipe up.

Could you be pressing the side button as you move your wrist? A friend of mine used to trigger Siri on his watch (pressing the crown) by just moving is wrist, so he swapped the watch round, has the crown on the left and the screen rotates, and it solved the problem.

The only way to activate the control panel is to swipe from the bottom of the screen

On watchOS 26 I find swiping up from the bottom gives me the widgets. To get the control centre (where airplane mode, cinema mode is) I have to press the side button. Did you mean widgets?

Picture from macworld.com here, showing widgets on left, and control centre on right:

If you are doing something on the phone that uses live activities, that can trigger the widgets Smart Stack (inc listening to music or podcasts)

On the watch app in your phone try changing the settings under “Smart Stack” and see if that helps.

That’s just it, I’m not doing anything that swipes up. About 30% of the time I turn my wrist to check the time and the Widgets appear.

The widgets can appear automatically on the watch (no swipes required) depending on what the phone is doing. The Smart Stack settings can change that.

Rotating the digital crown will bring the widgets up. If you've got your watch too close to your hand then it can rotate the crown. Try wearing it slightly higher on your arm.

Yes, auto activation of widgets is a feature many do not like. I disabled this, so I always get the time and have to interact with the watch to do anything else. I don't mind the icon at the top showing music playing etc, but I don't want the time to vanish in favour of some widget showing the music playing on my phone. Its a watch for .... :)
