  I've had it happen a few times over the years but just do what you did and delete and block them. I imagine they get hold of your number from somewhere (maybe after a data breach with an organisation that has your number), or just have a list of potentially valid numbers and try them.
  
  EDIT: Actually, I've not received calls like that, just messages in WhatsApp from numbers I don't recognise asking me to add them, so maybe that's a different sort of scam?

  I had this last week - reported the number to 7726.
  
  Unsure as to where it's originating from but the female voice left on my voicemail appeared to have been generated with AI.

  Yep, I had the same a couple of weeks ago. Deleted, blocked, and reported....
