What would it take for ITV to un-“rest” DOI?

As someone helpful pointed out on another thread ITV have not cancelled DOI just ‘rested’ it. If they had cancelled it another broadcaster could air it and thus ITV loose the rights. So if it did return it would have to be ITV’s decision. I feel the only reasons they would resurrect it would be 1, there’s a new spike in popularity of ice skating, 2, cheap alternative they air in the winter Sunday night slot achieve no where near DOI viewership, 3 Strictly continues to rise in popularity (even more then it is now) and ITV feel the only way to get some of that audience is air the most identical show to Strictly they can. Anyone else have any thoughts on what would have to change for ITV to resurrect the show?

The opening music was scrapped, everything felt rushed, the Ice Panel was bad, Torville & Dean weren't good judges, Pros were changed too often & the result show was crammed into the main show.
It wasn't the Dancing on Ice we knew and loved.
The viewing figures show very clearly that usually a good million or two did not return for the separate result show. In the earlier series, it was even more than that (3 million).
Because it didn't allow the show to breath. When a contestant got eliminated their farewell interview and speech felt rushed.
I preferred the days when you had the Live Show, then Wild at Heart and after that the Result Show. I was a kid at the time and I remember being nervous and excited during the 60 minute wait and then when the Result Show aired it felt like a huge deal.
unless they decide to keep going for the 2030 Olympics (and they very well might, there are going to be a slew of ice dance retirements after Milan which would only help their chances for Olympic medals)
Interesting as I read generation x are more likely to spend money. So I’d be intrigued to hear why commercial stations want a younger demo.
I've always thought that incident where he skated off the rink was a set up and not very funny
Them running out of ideas
Wearing out their endless repeats of The Chase, Tipping Point and Celebrity Catchphrase.
Well I guess that did happen in 2018. Maybe lightning might strike twice
Not sure, DOI was a very expensive show, as ITV had to hire an ice rink, pay a team of judges, the two presenters and the celebs to take part, and it wasn't rating well or attracting many younger viewers. I can't see it coming back and to be fair, it had been cancelled previously due to falling ratings, was revived and suffered the same fate.
I don't see T&D only judging being that big a deal, we all know they're physically unable to perform as they used to. G8ve the pros more performance slots again as pairs, solo or in small groups. A biggervrink would give them space to perform properly.
I'd like to see it more like a proper skating comp. Go back to having technical elements they must perform.
Instead of themes like movies or whatever, have Waltz Week or Tango Week or something, so.they are allowed to pickthe music but have a set rhythm like they used to do in ice dance comps.
I like your suggestions to make it more like an ice dance competition. Unfortunately TV shows aren’t about accuracy they’re about getting as many viewers as possible. Other than the niche audiences of the skating world I can’t see many viewers being hooked by a ‘Waltz week.’ Movie week is more generic and thus meaning more variety in what the couples do.
As most ice skaters will tell you ice time is precious and hard to book. So I’m not sure locals of any place would be happy for their rink to be used up for DOI for 2 months plus of the year. Plus it would cost ITV a fortune. I also question whether most permanent rinks would deem DOI as worthy enough or profitable enough for the show to have their live shows at their rink. They could probably make a heck of a lot more by charging for public skating session / skating lessons / practice lessons etc in the time they’d have to block out for DOI.
Like I said, timing and as you say feasibility.
I suspect you are right.
