Subject: FlyBase query Dear Dr. Goldstein, I am curating your paper for FlyBase: Goldstein et al., 2001, Molec. Genet. Genomics 266(4): 695--700 and I have a few questions. Sorry it has taken us so long to get to your paper, we got a little behind with MGG. .. The names of the alleles given in Table 1. of your MGG paper are very similar to those in Figure 9. of: Currie and Sullivan, 1994, J. Biol. Chem. 269(40): 24679--24687 and in that JBC paper they reference your 1993 ADRC abstract: Goldstein et al., 1993, A. Dros. Res. Conf. 34: 301 'Further studies on the Drosophila homolog of the Jun oncogene.' Here is a Table listing the symbols in the Currie and Sullivan paper and the allele from Table 1 of your MGG paper that I think the Currie and Sullivan alleles correspond to: | Currie and | allele from Table 1 | | Sullivan | of your MGG paper | | | (complementation group| | | in brackets) | \------------------------------------------ Fig 9A| 1.2 | 1-2 (A) | 1.11 | not in Table 1 | 5.2 | 5-2 (G) | 5.3 | 5-3 (E) | 5.11 | 5-11 (K) | 6.6 | 6-6 (B) | 7.12 | 7-12 (I) | 10.5 | 10-5 (B or F ..) | 10.9 | 10-9 (F) | 12.6 | 12-6 (D) | 14.10 | 14-10 (F) | 14.39 | 14-39 (L) | 15.4 | 15-4 (B) | 17.5 | 17-5 (M) | 19.22 | 19-22 (N) | 20.10 | 20-10 (O) | 20.35 | 20-35 (F) | 21.15 | 21-15 (J) | 22.21 | 22-21 (C) | 22.26 | 22-26 (I) | 24.15 | 24-15 (P) | 28.19 | not in Table 1 | 29.26 | 29-26 (R) | x-1 | Df(2R)X1 \------------------------------------------ Fig9B | 8.1 | not in Table 1 | 8.4 | 8-4 (B) | 9.24 | 9-24 (B) | 14.35 | 14-35 (B) | 19.51 | 19-51 (B) | 21.25 | not in Table 1 | 21.30 | not in Table 1 | 29.42 | 29-42 (B) | 80.30 | not in Table 1 | 83.21 | not in Table 1 \------------------------------------------ The difference seems to be that Currie and Sullivan used a '.' where you used a '-'. I suspect that this means that the complementation groups in Figure 9. of the Currie and Sullivan paper do correspond to alleles listed in Table 1. of your paper, which means I could merge several gene records in FlyBase. However, I wanted to make sure that my hunch was correct before I do this. Do you have any information that might help me confirm that the complementation groups given in Figure 9. of the Currie and Sullivan, 1994 paper are the same as in Table 1. of your MGG paper, for example, did you give them these particular stocks ? ..
