Gene Summary
transforming acidic coiled-coil protein (tacc) encodes a centrosomal protein that helps to stabilize microtubules. It seems to influence microtubules indirectly, primarily through its interaction with the product of msps. It is also phosphorylated by the product of aurA, and this activates its ability to stabilize microtubules. [Date last reviewed: 2019-03-14] (FlyBase Gene Snapshot)

Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

Additional Descriptive Data

Staining of embryos with antibodies against tacc reveals strong staining of the centrosomes and weak staining of the spindle microtubules.

Protein was highly concentrated at centrosomes throughout the cell cycle and low levels of staining were observed in astral microtubules and spindle microtubules.

sub mutants do not interact with alleles of γTub37C, αTub67C, msps, tacc or wisp.

tacc is essential for mitotic spindle function in the early embryo.
