Imprecise excision of the P{EP} element leading to a deletion from -1815bp upstream of the translation start site to +1142bp downstream of this site. Expression of the pyx-PA transcript isoform is prevented but expression of the pyx-PB transcript isoform is unaffected.

      pyxDf9 mutants have a different temperature preference to wild-type flies, although their mean preferred temperature is the same. More than 40% of pyxDf9 mutant flies are paralyzed within 3 minutes of being placed on an aluminum block of 400C, whereas only 9% of wild-type flies are paralyzed under these conditions.
