Embryos laid by heterozygous females are moderately ventralised; ventral denticle bands are expanded, dorsolaterally derived structures such as the filzkorper are reduced or absent and the dorsal hairs are almost completely missing. At gastrulation, embryos laid by mutant females invaginate an apparently normal ventral furrow, but initiation of the lateral cephalic furrow is shifted to a more dorsal position and fewer dorsal folds are formed than normal. Embryos laid by ea^D3/Df(3R)ea-5022rx1 females are virtually indistinguishable from embryos laid by ea^D3/+ females.

All eggs laid by ea^D3/ea⁺ mothers are moderately ventralised.
