Clear Bag Policy

As a part of an ongoing commitment to safety and security, aligning with the best practices at major entertainment and athletics venues, the University of Notre Dame instituted a Clear Bag Policy for all events in the Compton Family Ice Arena.

General Information

Accessibility

ADA Seating (including fans using wheelchairs)

Any guests requiring special assistance are urged to make ticketing arrangements with the Murnane Family Ticket Office in advance of home hockey games.

On Game Day, accessibility seat exchange options will be available at the Compton Family Ice Arena Ticket Office. Ticket booths will open one hour prior to gates though guests are still encouraged to make arrangements in advance to help maximize your time on campus.

Wheelchairs

The University is unable to provide guests with wheelchairs, scooters, or walkers, or store those items belonging to guests during events.

Open Captioning

Open captioning will be provided on the video board.

Alcohol Information
  • All guests must be 21 years of age to purchase an alcoholic beverage.
  • A valid I.D. is required for purchase.
  • There is a limit of 2 alcoholic beverages per valid I.D per transaction. If an individual is already in possession of one beverage, they will only be permitted to purchase one additional beverage.
  • Alcoholic beverages may NOT travel between O’Brien’s and the concourse.
  • Alcohol service will be discontinued at the 12-minute mark in the 3rd quarter. For more information, click here.
  • Outside alcohol and alcohol containers are NOT permitted inside Compton Family Ice Arena.
  • Fans may NOT exit the Arena with alcohol.
  • We reserve the right to refuse service to intoxicated persons.
  • A guest that appears to be 30 years of age or younger must produce a valid form of acceptable identification.
  • Acceptable forms of valid United States identification for alcoholic beverage purchases are: United States Driver’s License, State issued I.D. w/photo, Military I.D. w/photo, Passport, Passport I.D. Card, Mexican Consular Card
  • Government Warning: According to the Surgeon General, women should not drink alcoholic beverages during pregnancy because of the risk of birth defects.
Cashless Venue

All vendors and concession stands inside Compton Family Ice Arena will no longer accept cash. Payment in the form of credit or debit card will be accepted. Additionally, all concession stands now accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Tap To Pay.

Elevator

An elevator is available for guests needing assistance and is located at the northeast corner of Compton. Access is available to the main level and upper concourse.

Emergency Evacuation

In the event of an emergency evacuation, a public address announcement will be made. Uniformed officers and arena personnel will assist guests in exiting the arena in an orderly manner.

Gates and Doors Open

Compton Family Ice Arena public entrances open 60 minutes prior for general ticket holders and 90 minutes prior to puck drop for O’Brien’s patrons.

Metal Detectors

Compton Family Ice Arena utilizes metal detectors at all entrances. 

After having bags checked, guests will pass through the metal detectors and then have tickets scanned for entry to the venue. Entrants will not be required to remove belts, cell phones, coins, jackets, jewelry, watches, wallets, shoes or other small objects.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early at the venue to ensure a sufficient amount of time for screening.

Parking

Please allow adequate time when arriving on campus to park prior to the event. Fans are encouraged to park in either the Compton Lot or Innovation Park. See the parking map below.

Things to know: 

  • Tailgating is prohibited
  • Parking is free
  • Inbound traffic patterns will start 1.5 hours prior to the event 
  • Outbound traffic patterns be in place for 1 hour post event or until all traffic is cleared
  • Parking attendants will be available to assist guests 2 hours before all home hockey games. 
  • Please note: On days the University is hosting a hockey game simultaneously as a basketball game, shuttle services will be provided.

Permitted Items

The following items are permitted within Compton Family Ice Arena:

  • Binoculars
  • Blankets
  • Cameras with lenses shorter than six (6) inches (without cases, must adhere to Clear Bag Policy)
  • CDC approved masks
  • Cell phones
  • Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags that do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12” with logo on one side only to not exceed 4.5” x 3.4”
  • Clutch bag, with or without handle/strap, or wallet not to exceed 4.5” x 6.5”
  • Empty (non-glass) water vessel (i.e. personal water bottle, Yeti cup, etc.)
  • *Hand-held radios
  • Hand sanitizer (not to exceed 4 oz.)
  • Heated apparel (jackets, gloves, etc.)
  • Medical bags or equipment (subject to additional screening)
  • One-gallon clear plastic bags (such as Ziploc or Hefty)
  • Pumps for nursing mothers (subject to additional screening)
  • Seat cushions not to exceed 16” x 16”
  • *Small umbrellas

*Cameras, hand-held radios, and small umbrellas are allowed as long as they do not compromise the view or experience of others. Permitted items above, including diapers, wipes, and other supplies for babies and small children, should be placed in an approved clear bag.

Prohibited Items

Weapons of any kind are prohibited on campus.

The following items are prohibited within Compton Family Ice Arena:

  • Aerosol cans or bottles
  • Animals (Service Dogs are permitted)
  • Artificial noisemakers (including whistles)
  • Bags and containers that do not meet the Clear Bag Policy
  • Bottles of water
  • Drones or Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
  • Fireworks or explosives
  • Glass bottles
  • Golf umbrellas
  • Halloween-style masks
  • Laser or pen pointers
  • Obstructive cameras or selfie sticks
  • Outside alcohol or alcohol containers
  • Outside food or beverage
  • Projectors/projection devices
  • Signs, banners, and balloons
  • Stadium chairs or seat backs (unless medical reason with documentation)
  • Strollers
  • The throwing of any object at any time
  • Use of tobacco products and e-cigarettes
  • Use or possession of marijuana, and other illegal drugs
  • Any other items deemed dangerous or inappropriate

Future ticket privileges may be revoked for violations of the prohibited item policy.

Recycling

Recycling is available to guests throughout the Arena Concourses to collect empty bottles and cans. Common materials accepted include aluminum and plastic. Thank you for helping to care for our common home.

Service Animals
  • Animals are not permitted in the Compton Family Ice Arena, except for service animals or service animals in training that accompany individuals with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines ‘service animals’ as ‘dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities.’ Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA and, therefore, are not permitted.
  • See an usher if a Service Animal needs to visit a relief area (for exit and re-entry purposes).
Wheelchair (Companion/Storage/Rental)
  • Rental/Storage: The University is unable to provide guests with wheelchairs, scooters, or walkers, or store those items belonging to guests during events.
  • Tickets: Reserved seating areas for patrons utilizing a wheelchair or scooter or for those with mobility limitations are located throughout the stadium. Seating is available to patrons and one companion. Please contact the ticket office for seating availability in these areas.

 

Wi-Fi/Internet

Free Wi-Fi is available at Compton Family Ice Arena on the ND-guest network.

Concessions

  • Concession stands throughout the Compton Family Ice Arena will feature a variety of menu items for purchase.  
  • General concessions will open one hour prior to the start of the game and remain open until the middle of the third period.

Rockne Brat

After last year’s success, Notre Dame Athletics continues to offer the “Rockne Brat”. Included at concession stands across Compton, this delicious specialty brat will be smothered with a rich Guinness-infused stone ground mustard sauce and topped with caramelized onions. Part of the proceeds from each brat sold will support our student-athletes through the Rockne Athletics Fund.
