The legal team for Melissa Mantzoukis has confirmed that it is now challenging the results of the Greek selection for Eurovision 2023.
On ‘Super Katerina’ this morning the lawyer for Melissa Mantzoukis announced that it is now officially challenging the results of the Greek selection for Eurovision 2023. The artists’ team is specifically questioning the results of the 7-member jury formed by ERT which held at 49.6% say in the results of the selection.
The legal team has sent an out-of-court letter to ERT requesting an explanation regarding two factors. How the jury still voted when it is reported that Maria Maragou and Antonia Kaouri had withdrawn from the selection process? And how Melissa received 440 points from the jury when if three songs were in the running the minimum score she could have received was 560 points.
The ERT Committee formed of jurors chosen by ERT voted following meetings with all three acts in which they presented details of their performances, promotion, music video etc. The scores announced last week by Melissa’s legal team were:
- Victor Vernicos – What They Say – 740 votes
- Maria Maragou and Antonia Kaouri – Shout Out – 720 votes
- Melissa Mantzoukis – Liar – 440 votes
ERT has not commented publicly on the matter or confirmed whether the results released on Super Katerina last week are valid. On January 30, ERT announced that Victor Vernicos will represent Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Greece debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 when they were represented by Marinella and the song “Krasi, thalassa kai t’agori mou” which finished in 11th place with 7 points. Three years later Greece earned their first top 5 finish with Paschalis, Marianna, Robert, and Bessy who finished in 5th place with “Mathima solfege”. In 2001 Greece achieved their first top 3 result with Antique and the song “I Would Die For You”. The song became a European hit and charted across the continent. In 2005 Helena Paparizou returned to the Eurovision stage as a solo artist and brought Greece their first, and to date only, victory. Her song “My Number One” won with 230 points, beating runners-up Malta by 38 points.
