Temwa Chawinga wins second consecutive NWSL MVP

Kansas City Current forward and Golden Boot winner Temwa Chawinga was announced as the NWSL MVP on Wednesday in San Jose, Calif. She was also named to the league’s Best XI during the first NWSL Awards. Teammate Lorena earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors and joined Chawinga on the Best XI. Claire Hutton and Izzy Rodriguez, finalists for Midfielder and Defender of the Year, also made the Best XI squad.

North Carolina’s Manaka Matsukubo won Midfielder of the Year and Tara McKeown of the Washington Spirit was awarded Defender of the Year. Gotham FC’s Lilly Reale was tabbed as Rookie of the Year. Racing Louisville’s Beverly Yanez earned Coach of the Year honors, besting Washington’s Adrian Gonzalez and Kansas City’s Vlatko Andonovski.
