FRANKFURT - Japan attacker Ritsu Doan scored the winner for his fourth league goal of the season as Eintracht Frankfurt saw off Augsburg 1-0 at home in the German Bundesliga on Saturday, while Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma made his return in England.
Doan completed a fine solo effort in the 68th minute at Deutsche Bank Park after receiving the ball in a tight space down the right and dribbling past two players to get into the box before his low strike took a deflection on its way into the net.
Joel Chima Fujita had two assists as 10-man St. Pauli held on to beat Heidenheim 2-1 at home, helping them claim their first league win in three months.
Fujita's short pass into the box set up Martijn Kaars' emphatic 35th-minute opener off the bar before the home side went a man down late in the first half. But the midfielder again set up the Dutchman with a long through ball on a 53rd-minute counter for a 2-0 lead.
Mitoma came on as a 64th-minute substitute for Brighton during their 2-0 defeat at Liverpool in the Premier League as the Japan winger recovered from a left ankle injury suffered in late September.
"I thought I'd have been able to return a bit earlier, but it continued to be troublesome," said Mitoma, who immediately came close to scoring four minutes after introduction following a good link-up play with Georginio Rutter.
Japan captain Wataru Endo was not in the matchday squad after Liverpool head coach Arne Slot on Friday said the midfielder is out for "weeks" with an ankle injury.
In the Dutch Eredivisie, Kento Shiogai came off the bench to net a 77th-minute leveler to salvage a 2-2 draw for NEC Nijmegen at Telstar with his seventh goal of the season.
The 20-year-old, who came on for Japan forward Koki Ogawa just before the hour mark, slid home a square pass by his other compatriot Kodai Sano to complete the scoreline. The youngster continued the run of scoring off the bench, having made only one start this campaign.
