    Inherited from Proto-Berber *a-fuʔs (hand),[1] from Proto-Afroasiatic. Cognate with Zenaga ävuʔš (hand), Tuareg ăfus (hand), Ghadames ōfess (hand), and possibly Aramaic [script needed] (psʔ, palm).
