Lists of U.S. network affiliates by state

[edit]

Do we need these? The table at the corresponding lists with the "(table)" disambiguator are sortable, and can easily be sorted by state. The separate "by state" lists seem redundant in effort and wholly unnecessary. I believe they're a relic from before the main lists became sortable tables, but we can just merge them now and lose zero function or information. Plus then we can also get rid of the silly and likely guideline non-compliant "(table)" disambiguators. Thoughts? oknazevad (talk) 15:52, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate that this has been brought up. After doing much of the paring down of these tables and removing most excessive details and footnotes, there's not really any reason for the lists to exist (I would even think the "affiliated since" column on these tables is largely unnecessary and have thought of junking them across-the-board). Support consolidating these pages and removing the disambigs. Nathan Obral • he/him/🦝 • tc16:47, 6 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
At a quick glance, I would support the relevant series of merges/redirects/deletions (e.g., List of Fox Broadcasting Company affiliates (table) moved to List of Fox Broadcasting Company affiliates and List of Fox Broadcasting Company affiliates (by U.S. state) either redirected there or deleted). RunningTiger123 (talk) 01:18, 7 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'd support this. The tables have more features, and all of the content is covered in them now. The only thing that isn't is the international Fox channels list, and that is the point of Fox (channel), a disambiguation page, and more appropriate navigation structures. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 04:33, 7 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

So I went ahead and redirected the by-state articles to the "table" articles. At this point we can probably request moves for those to drop the unneeded disambiguators. oknazevad (talk) 06:17, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification request: notability criteria for television authors and executives

[edit]

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask for some clarification about Wikipedia’s notability guidelines as they apply to people working behind the scenes in television — in particular, television authors, format creators, and network executives.

On the Italian Wikipedia, there are currently no specific notability criteria for television authors, creators, or executives. Because of this, articles about individuals who have played major roles in the development and management of national broadcasting programs (especially within the Italian public broadcaster RAI) have sometimes been deleted for “non-notability,” even when supported by many reliable media sources.

I’d like to understand how such cases would be evaluated on the English Wikipedia.

Specifically:

  1. Which guideline would apply — Wikipedia:Notability (people), WP:CREATIVE, or WP:CORPORATE?
  2. Would the creation or co-creation of several nationally broadcast and long-running TV programs on a public channel be considered sufficient to establish notability?
  3. Are there any precedents or reference cases for television authors, producers, or scheduling executives who are not on-screen personalities but have had a clear impact on national broadcasting or programming strategy?

I’m asking in general terms to better understand how notability is interpreted for television professionals working primarily in creative and managerial roles.

Thank you very much for your time and guidance. XXlordjediXx (talk) 16:47, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Debbie Grayson

[edit]

If editors would be interested in Debbie Grayson, there is a newer editor there removing any maintenance templates added to the article, despite the fact that it remains almost entirely plot with only several sentences of reception. This is another classic television-article example of "all plot, small reception, makes a legit article". -- Alex_21 TALK 20:42, 14 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This seems like a decent article, with the biggest issue being too much weight to the plot section. I wonder if we should add some kind of word limit for character synopses (similar to MOS:TVPLOT), perhaps with an exception that longer sections are allowed only if they can be fully sourced to secondary sources about the character (so not just sources about the show in general). RunningTiger123 (talk) 03:52, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
At the time of posting that comment, it looked like this, or even this when I first came across it. It's definitely plot-heavy, but I think we definitely need to keep doubling down that a singular Reception section alongside a Plot does not make a notable article, for any type of television-based article (episode, season, character, etc). -- Alex_21 TALK 04:24, 15 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm working on this article for GOCE. The requester mentioned that the article is too long to read in one sitting. This isn't my usual subject area so I wanted to ask which parts should stay and what should be trimmed? Rosaecetalkcontribs 17:36, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Rosaece, most TV stations can be contained in one article. WGN-TV probably cannot, and article splits are more necessary for it than maybe any single TV station in the U.S. It has produced enough programming and had enough cultural impact (including as a superstation) to spill over. You are also dealing with an article mostly written by Tvtonightokc, whose writing style is riddled with tangents. I think you can reduce size by 30 to 60 percent on this page just by cutting the cruft—and I speak from substantial experience. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 18:58, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Sammi. I noticed that there was a discussion recently to split the channel's history into a separate article; do you think that's the way to go? Rosaecetalkcontribs 19:56, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Rosaece Try doing the trimming of tangents first. Then we can talk about some of the other possible splits, some of which exist, e.g. WGN Sports. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 20:38, 24 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

See also in episode plot summaries

[edit]

I was wondering, do y'all reckon it'd be a good idea to suggest adding a see also to episode plot summaries if the reader may benefit from additional context? Maybe not for a Simpsons episode, but for something with continuity, I think it would be a valuable inclusion with little negative impact on the article if at all. Cukie Gherkin (talk) 17:31, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'd think anyone with a significant interest in learning more about an episode's plot summary is capable of using Google to look it up elsewhere. What problem would this be attempting to solve? I'd rather see more done to focus on areas of articles other than the plot summaries. DonIago (talk) 17:44, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well that's the thing, I think a see also on a plot summary can be helpful to direct people to the plot summary if they have further questions, and in including this, it would help avoid needing to provide context. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 19:45, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have an example? -- Alex_21 TALK 20:16, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The episode "To a Kinder World", where the see also link came up in peer review as something that ought not to be included. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 21:54, 26 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think it is inherently wrong but I can see the argument for it being unnecessary. Most episode article plot summaries are going to make more sense if you read the series/season article first, or the summaries in previous episode articles, and I think most people will be able to work that out with the existing links in the lead and infobox. - adamstom97 (talk) 08:34, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's fair - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 11:13, 27 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Potential RfC regarding List-article naming and classification

[edit]

Just giving a shout, over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video_games/Video game characters#RfC we're discussing the naming structure of lists, particularly given some have different structures but also are classified as GA and FA. Wanting more input from other wikiprojects before we go forward with a RfC. Kung Fu Man (talk) 17:27, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question about nonnotable list of episodes

[edit]

I have been working on Dinotrux in an attempt to get it to good article and I was wondering, is it best to merge List of Dinotrux episodes or to keep them seperate? The list itself does not seem to be very notable and can not contain the things that FLS on list of episodes have because there is not enough material about it. Thus, it seems that I can merge it, as it should should not have a page. I am new to editing in this area, so I am seeking the opinion of more experienced people. Request for neutral review/submission: Draft:Justin Rae Barnes (television producer)

[edit]

Hi all — I’m requesting a neutral review and, if appropriate, neutral submission for Draft:Justin Rae Barnes to comply with COI/BLP best practices.

I am the subject of the draft and have disclosed COI on my user page. The draft is written neutrally and cites independent trade coverage that names me as showrunner/EP, plus awards pages:

• Deadline – Stacy London & Clinton Kelly To Host ‘Wear Whatever the F You Want’ (names me as showrunner/EP): https://deadline.com/2024/08/stacy-london-clinton-kelly-wear-whatever-the-f-you-want-amazon-1236050264/ • Variety – House of Villains Season 3 cast & executive producers (lists me as EP): https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/house-of-villains-season-3-cast-tom-sandoval-peacock-1236412230/ • Deadline – ‘House of Villains’ Moves From E! To Peacock For Season 3 (lists me as EP): https://deadline.com/2025/05/house-of-villains-peacock-season-3-1236391442/ • Television Academy – bio / nominations page: https://www.televisionacademy.com/bios/justin-rae-barnes • Critics Choice Real TV Awards 2025 – nominations hub: https://www.criticschoice.com/real-tv/

AfC reviewers flagged “autobiography” and requested more independent sourcing. I’d appreciate a neutral editor’s advice and, if it meets WP:NPEOPLE, help moving it forward so it’s not self-submitted.

Thanks so much for your time and guidance. ~~~~ Justinraebarnes (talk) 19:55, 30 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't dug through all of the sources, but at a quick glance, the main issue is NPEOPLE, not the autobiographical elements. For an article about a person, there should be coverage focused on that person; the provided sources only offer brief, tangential mentions. That won't change regardless of who submits it. RunningTiger123 (talk) 06:22, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for clarifying, that’s really helpful context. I’ll hold off until there’s more independent coverage about my work specifically. 76.88.45.92 (talk) 14:25, 31 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
