More vandalism and self promotion from Eoghan Lyng

this new account belongs to Eoghan Lyng, known to moderators as someone who persistently edits articles to promote his own work at either the DMovies blog or churnalism from Far Out or Spectrum Culture.

it's clearly him as it follows the usual pattern of promoting himself and also removing any new references he finds to sites from which he's previously been fired.

Dwellics.com

The link is dead, but its YouTube says "Dwellics operates in both Financial (financial help for consumers) and Marketing (offering leads to real estate, mortgage professionals or moving companies) industries, so it appears to be spam. " Graywalls (talk) 02:41, 9 January 2026 (UTC)

@Graywalls It hasn't been added recently on enwiki and the last addition was by an editor in good standing (Mangoe). It should probably be removed wherever it remains but blocking the accounts after so long would be pointless. If it re-appears, we can block or blacklist it. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:39, 9 January 2026 (UTC)
I didn't add it, just copied in as part of a merge. As far as I am concerned it can go. Mangoe (talk) 20:06, 10 January 2026 (UTC)

theparisianguide.com

This site – a knock-off of TripAdvisor or booking.com – has been subtly added over the course of last year to articles on tourist destinations in Paris and its environs. Except for the most recent account, the rest have worked by correcting a typo and/or adding a picture and slipping the link into the external links of the article at the same time. The subterfuge of that method is what caught my eye. The above are just from the first couple of results from a plain search – there are 24 results in that search in total.

The site is not without uses, but if we're going to link this type of site then we'd also be linking TripAdvisor and booking.com and the rest, something we generally don't do as the message from the site is more sales than tourism. Do people here recommend reverting? Reverting and blacklisting? • a frantic turtle 🐢 10:17, 12 January 2026 (UTC)

@A Frantic Turtle the way it's been added by single-purpose accounts worries me, but equally it doesn't look like the sort of sales site that we normally blacklist, and the links for the most part haven't been removed. We might need a discussion about this one at a venue with more eyes, perhaps RSN? If we decide to go the blacklisting route, it would probably need to be global because it appears on multiple other wikis. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:19, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
I'm glad it's not just me that isn't 100% sure either way on this! Using underhand methods to add a reasonable site is frustrating, shall we say. I've gone with asking for opinions on the external links noticeboard as the site doesn't turn up in many citations (and I'm inclined to remove it where it does) and we'll see what consensus emerges there. • a frantic turtle 🐢 13:50, 13 January 2026 (UTC)

theindaily.com

The links he is inserting seem to lead to a Vietnamese gambling site. SpragueThomsontalk 02:08, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

Adding TA that was adding the same links a few days ago. • a frantic turtle 🐢 04:26, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

This seems to be a hacked website at the very least. The links added (from a quick spot check) lead to articles that match the citation metadata; however, at the top of the page source is the refresh code <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=http://itpolly.com "> which sends the visitor to itpolly[.]com and then to the gambling site ta88[.]biz. Although the edits by Spaminulislamcmp all linking to that one website are definitely very suspicious. OutsideNormality (talk) 05:51, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell Might be helpful - check out User_talk:PAGJedi7#Welcome! - a person disclosed that they hired @Muhammad Aehsan Kashif, who is in the list here, to create the article via Fiverr: "I am concerned because I have tried to follow all the regulations about posting biographies on Wikipedia, including hiring a 3rd party to write the biography to ensure neutrality. I was assured this was disclosed." and "I have contacted Fiverr to file a complaint." Dreamyshade (talk) 15:52, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
@Dreamyshade thanks for the info. I suspect this is an SEO/PR/paid editing type firm. I also suspect they'll be back (they probably already are), so complaining to the sites where they're touting for business is good. It's unfortunate that they're taking advantage of people who want to do the right thing. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:09, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

The IPs geolocate all over the place (France, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Romania, the Philippines); most are not obviously proxies. Potential paper mill activities

This edit initially caught my attention for reinstating many preliminary researches from similar publishers (was on mobile and all I saw is tens of dois beginning with 10.5281/zenodo, while edit summary reads reminiscent of the "underdog researchers being blocked by academic gatewatchers" narrative.

Turns out, Zenodo is an open repository, like arxiv. And all the cited papers were preprints. They're all authored by "Gheorghe, Stefan-Alexandru". -> [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Nothing else to say (or do), but I'll be eyeing for the string '10.5281/zenodo' from now. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 14:10, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
