Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Nigeria
| Points of interest related to Nigeria on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Nigeria. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Nigeria|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Nigeria. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Africa.

being the wife of a notable politician does not give notability. The current page only describes this person as a wife, a mother, and a daughter. Not a biographical entry. I suggest Redirect to Mohammed Buba Marwa Broc (talk) 13:32, 26 February 2026 (UTC)

- Soft Keep: I generally think we should presume notability for first lady's of countries and the states of federalized states. They typically play a role in the administration and there tends to be both contemporary newspaper coverage and long term historical interest. However, I don't think there is clear consensus on this. BLP full of details about alive and career that seem entirely non notable. The subject comes from an important family, has had an unsuccessful political career along with various board roles and minor awards. Mccapra (talk) 23:01, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Businesspeople, Politicians, Law, Royalty and nobility, and Nigeria. Mccapra (talk) 23:01, 24 February 2026 (UTC)
- The nomination significantly undersells the subject's notability across multiple independent criteria.
- 1. Political notability (WP:NPOL): Dumo Lulu-Briggs has contested the governorship of Rivers State — one of Nigeria's most politically and economically significant states — on multiple occasions, including under the National Democratic Party in 2019 and the Accord Party in 2023. Wikipedia's notability guidelines for politicians do not require winning elections. Significant candidacies in major state elections, supported by coverage in multiple reliable sources, are sufficient. Describing this as merely an "unsuccessful political career" misrepresents the standard. Hunterkiller1070 (talk) 13:03, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- 2. Then there is the Federal government appointments: These are not "minor board roles." He served as Chairman of the National Maritime Academy in Oron and Chairman of the Federal Medical Centre in Owerri — both are federal government institutions, representing significant public appointments.
- 3. Substantial coverage in reliable sources: The subject has been covered extensively and independently across major Nigerian national outlets including ThisDay, Vanguard, The Guardian Nigeria, Daily Post, BusinessDay, and The Sun — not just in passing references, but in dedicated articles about his business, politics, and philanthropy. ThisDay, one of Nigeria's most authoritative publications targeting political, business, and diplomatic audiences, Dumolulu-briggs has published multiple independent profiles of him. Hunterkiller1070 (talk) 13:05, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- 4. Significant business profile: He is Chairman of DLB Group, operating in the oil, gas, and marine sectors, and Chairman of Platform Petroleum Limited, with over 28 years of experience in Nigeria's oil and gas industry — a sector of major national importance.
- 5. Traditional/royal standing: He leads the Oruwari-Briggs House of Abonnema in the Kalabari Kingdom and holds the traditional title of Innikeroari VI, a position of recognised cultural and community significance in the Niger Delta.
- The nomination confuses "not winning elections" with "not notable," which is not how Wikipedia's guidelines work. The article should be kept and improved, not deleted. Hunterkiller1070 (talk) 13:07, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- Udechukwu Udeke (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
Based on a quick BEFORE, I do not think Udeke meets NPROF. A quick search on Google Scholar shows he has been cited 6 times [1], which falls far below NPROF. I searched his name, as well as the title for each authored book through my university library and didn't find any sources and book reviews. Declined at AFC a couple of times already before being moved to mainspace. Subject doesn't seem to meet WP:NPROF. Might be a case of WP:TOOSOON at best. Things like https://www.wes.org.uk/meet-the-trustee-board/dr-chika-judith-abolle-okoyeagu/ aren't really sufficient, is an associate prof so relatively early career, doesn't have a high citation count, fellowships appear to be a member status rather than something highly selective (happy to be proved wrong about that though). - Delete, the subject fails to meet many criteria of WP:NPROF. I don't have a ton of access to academic repositories, but I struggled to find papers from the references list with a citation count greater than 5. Another criterion is having a notable award. Obviously, the Top 50 Women in Engineering award is legitimate and should be commended, but I don't think the laureates are necessarily notable given that the large majority of the laureates on the page lack a Wikipedia article. However, she is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, which is the highest level from that organization and should be considered. It is something you have to apply for, but I found no mention to an election on the FIMechE website. She appears to be a good researcher, but not necessarily a notable one under the guidelines. Fails WP:GNG. 〜 Festucalex • talk 01:12, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Poetry and Nigeria. 〜 Festucalex • talk 01:12, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- Which part of the guidelines is this failing? I found several sources, including Journal of Pristine (PDF), Journal of English Scholars’ Association of Nigeria, and a lecturer at Ibom State University. SenshiSun (talk) 06:15, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- A few literary analyses do not establish notability, that is done to many poems and literary works without making them individually notable. The poem can be discussed comfortably enough in the article about the poet. 〜 Festucalex • talk 13:30, 8 February 2026 (UTC)
- I don't see anything in the GNG saying that literary analysis wouldn't count for notability. Reviews count as coverage for movies and music. As you are a far more experienced editor than I am, I trust your judgement but would like to know your reasoning.
- Currently supporting merge to poet's page per nominator. SenshiSun (talk) 18:57, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

- Keep per the sources above. The first one can be accessed by searching for its title in Google Scholar. Contrary to the nominator, literary analysis establishes the notability of literary works. Kelob2678 (talk) 23:47, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

- Delete Sheer lack of WP:SIGCOV --- n✓h✓8 04:40, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- Keep: I could not agree that this "Fails WP:GNG" as the nominator lazily says. I find too many analysis of this poem from a cursory search to believe it doesn't pass GNG. See this analysis, and see another. I find just too many. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 12:32, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- Delete The coverage is insufficient for GNG but can easily be housed at the author's page. I urge other everyone to display good faith rather than attack other editors as "lazy". 🄻🄰 23:48, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

- Redirect to either the poet or the AQA article, this seems like a rather thin series of reviews for one poem. Oaktree b (talk) 14:27, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
- or a brief ~merge to the poet's article. mentioning this poem was included in the AQA "thing" (I'm not sure what it is exactly). Oaktree b (talk) 14:30, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
