Appears to fail WP:NSCHOOL. Mariamneireach out 🕊️ 11:04, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. I did a search for reliable sources, and while there are a few that arguably provide WP:SIGCOV, these are local news outlets with minimal reach or circulation beyond Lubbock and would fail to satisfy WP:AUD. I dont think they provide enough evidence of notabily to satisfy either WP:GNG or WP:NORG as required by WP:NSCHOOL.

Why are we deleting this again? I didn’t even get to finish the page, and it is a real, actual high school that people go to?? If you look up “Frenship Memorial High School” it would be so easy to see that this is an Easy Keep. Art913 (talk) 16:22, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Just because something WP:EXISTS doesnt mean it needs to have an article on Wikipedia. There are criteria and policies about what gets included. Its based on being able to demonstrate notability - that is, something significant attention from the world at large, not just a few articles in local papers about normal stuff that happens at every high school. There are policies called WP:NSCHOOL and WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES that say secondary schools are NOT presumed to be notable just because they exist, which is why we are having this debate. I understand, and thank you, but as someone from Lubbock, this school is absoLUTELY important in our community. I know it just got built, but not only is FMHS the biggest high school in Lubbock already, BUT already competing in huge competitions around TEXAS too. It will definitely be national! It definitely does deserve a Wikipedia just as much as its older sister school Frenship High School. Maybe it doesn’t have enough credibility yet, but it still is very important and needed. Art913 (talk) 18:33, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:CRYSTAL. You cannot base an article on predictions about something becoming notable in the future. Dfadden (talk) 21:13, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I know, because it’s already notable? ESPECIALLY in Lubbock. There are schools SMALLER than Memorial that have a wikipedia. I mean look at Cisco High School!! They have like 5 references and 2 of them are the WAYBACK machine??? But the BIGGEST high school and the second biggest school in general in the whole city of Lubbock can’t have a wikipedia? I am a bit disturbed to see Cisco High School was nominated for deletion a few hours after this comment. This is not welcoming to new editors to treat them like this. The school that is the subject of this AfD is plainly notable.--Milowenthasspoken 13:29, 9 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
It is not my intention to WP:BITE here. As you will see from my initial response to this editor, I answered by explaining in detail why I have !voted to delete this article. As Art913 pointed out the Cisco HS article is poorly sourced, it prompted me to look at that article and I agree with them. I outlined in a very detailed nomination that included an analysis of each source. Art913 did not create, nor have they ever edited that article, so I am not sure why you think I am treating them poorly? Rather I am demonstrating good faith by showing that all problematic articles should be treated the same and this isnt just an AfD cos they are new here. If you are suggesting that school is notable, that is a spearate issue and you should !vote there.
@Art913 I am sorry if you consider nominating Cisco High School for deletion as a attack on you in any way. It is certainly not intended as a personal attack on you, rather my agreement with you that there are issues with the sources as you pointed out, so its only fair that article is also nominated too. As for this discussion about Frenship High School, I recommend you read WP:HELPAFD and WP:ATA. These essays might help you to understand the how and why of deletion discussions and how to respond to them (and how to save the article if it can be done). Dfadden (talk) 21:14, 9 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t see it as an attack but I just see it as a major disappointment. There are so many schools in Texas that barely get recognition I can name, what are you gonna delete all of them? You can’t delete every slightly rural school in Texas because the whole US hasn’t mentioned them. These are communities, dude. These are people who edit for their communities. I even looked at WP:NSCHOOL. “ A topic is to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received in that are RELIABLE SOURCES and INDEPENDENT from the subject”. That’s KLBK, that’s KAMC… every MAJOR news source in Lubbock and even out of it. But when you take articles away, it’s not just clicking a button. That’s information you’re taking away. When I want to know about a school at a first glance… when I want to know about my communities and nearby. That’s Wikipedia. Not some over the top sources. Nobody cares about that. So yes, I think MY school, the one that helped me get where I am today, the one thousands and hundreds of people see, hear, or even helped and gone to by, should be on Wikipedia. And every other school in Texas that their cities have the same impact. Art913 (talk) 21:46, 9 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please remember, I didnt nominate this article, I just made an objective assessment against the details of Wkikpedia's notability criteria and !voted. I am also not the person who will ultimately determine whether the article is deleted or not. Rather than argue with me about why you think I am wrong, you should make it clear that you are !voting to keep the article and clearly articulate how your position is supported by policy. An admin or uninvolved editor will then come along and consider all the arguments that have been made here and decide what happens with the article. That is how Wikipedia works. With that I would ask you to stop replying to me trying to convince me to change my !vote and either!vote yourself, or improve the article to address the concerns raised by the nominator. Dfadden (talk) 23:48, 9 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't intend to start a kerfuffle. It is very clear this high school is getting sustained and regular coverage from the major regional media outlets that cover this area of Texas, a US state with a population higher than umm all of Australia. If this school isn't notable, then almost every high school article on wikipedia is also not notable.--Milowenthasspoken 14:43, 10 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
