Read the damn template. Seasider53 (talk) 01:47, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You continue to insert broken code and revert my attempts to fix the page. You cannot simply claim the page is a WIP and therefore that you WP:OWN the page. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 01:48, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have tried correcting your errors, I have tried gentle notes on your talk page. You simply reverted both because you insist you WP:OWN a page you are working on. If you are going to do a WIP with continuously broken code that causes errors, I would recommend you try using your WP:SANDBOX moving forward. You do not own pages in the article space. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 01:52, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Was this you the other day too? Seasider53 (talk) 10:35, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I do not edit while logged out. But feel free to make more unfounded accusations. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 12:16, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
User:Seasider53 This other editor is 100% correct and I appreciate you giving me additional information for the AIV I will absolutely file if you continue your WP:OWN behavior. NO ONE owns a page, particularly in the article space. Slapping a work WIP template on it does not prevent others from editing it. If you want to work on a page uninterrupted, use your sandbox or a draft. Your behavior directly violates policy. You have been warned multiple times by multiple users (and I will welcome an admin check to confirm that the Temp account you linked to is NOT me). Help

[edit]

Hello Zackmann. This editor 2026-29418-35 added a bunch of medal ribbons to the honorific suffix parameter, cluttering the infobox omg. Also, thanks in advance. ~2026-30691-01 (talk) 09:53, 22 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure what page you are referring to or how you expect me to help? Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:41, 22 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
They added several ribbon images (example) to the honor param. You can see the infobox here and how it was before here. Since this IP user has hundreds of edits, I wanted to bring this to your attention. I'm user ~2026-30691-01 ~2026-30679-65 (talk) 04:24, 23 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I have reverted all the edits. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 05:12, 23 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox changes

[edit]

Hi do you think infobox changes like this could be done with a bot? I feel like no human intervention is needed and that if a bot did it you would be able to better spend your time with other AWB tasks that need human intervention. Thanks. Panamitsu 23:03, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Could they be? 100,000%! Will they be? That is a harder one... I used to run ZackBot but ultimately gave up on it because the process for getting bots approved takes forever. Nobody's fault, but there simply are not enough people approving bots these days. So I find it a better use of my time to put on a good movie and run my JWB one click at a time. There are a few awesome bot operators out there who are helping with some of these cleanups, but at a certain point I feel like if I am going to initiate these clean ups, I need to do some of the legwork myself. So bottom line, I would love to see the work done by a bot if you feel like taking that on? Happy to help in any way I can! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 23:09, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I see. I haven't had any experience with bots (yet) so I probably won't be able to help. I did create User:SauronBot last year for another purpose but I never got around to it as the need for it disappeared. Thanks for the good work! Panamitsu 23:14, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ok well first, that is an awesome name for a bot.... Second, you should give it a go! You've clearly got the experience! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 23:16, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, maybe I'll give it a try. I'll have to do my homework first, don't really know much about how the process works. Panamitsu 23:30, 24 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Many of these do not seem to be changing the rendering of the page so might not be allowed by a bot under WP:COSMETICBOT. Thincat (talk) 09:47, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]
There are exceptions to WP:COSMETICBOT as exemplified by the runs often performed by PrimeBOT but it will definitely need to be discussed at a BRFA. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:05, 25 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

A simple thank you, May 2026

[edit]

I noticed you have been editing and fixing a lot of the Museum infoboxes and fixing parameters; already sent you a Thanks! notification, I believe, but I just wanted to give a bit more of a personalized thank you for doing thankless menial tasks that happen to help WP:Museums and Wikipedia as a whole. have a good day :-) ✝ barbieapologist (talk) 19:28, 27 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Barbieapologist: first of all... GREAT username. Love it. Second, thanks for the message! Nice to my work is appreciated. Don't hesitate to reach out if I can every help you with anything! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:31, 27 May 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Notifications on duplicate template arguments

[edit]

Please refrain from placing talk page messages on minor issues on editors talk pages. Assume the editors made a mistake in good faith. If you see a basic mistake, made in error, than fix it and move on without leaving pestering notices. Duplicate template argument can be made on accident, even with doing preview checks. Placing messages like that on seasoned editors pages in particular comes across as rude and WP:POINTY. We all know how to use the preview button.4meter4 (talk) 01:04, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

If you choose to be offended by the fact that another editor took the time to both fix your error AND to notify you about said error, that is on you. No one ever said you did anything in bad faith. That very standard user warning is just a reminder and a notification about the error. Again, if you choose to get offended about about it that is your problem not mine. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 04:46, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please quit with the notices on my talk page.4meter4 (talk) 17:35, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Please abide by them. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:35, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I have my own editing practices, which I have been doing for a very long time. I am not going to change them, and I am not interested in dealing with you further. Thank you for any copy edits, but frankly I am article building and would have fixed these errors given time. You are choosing to interrupt a work in progress, and make unhelpful obvious suggestions. This is both condescending and irritating. Go bother someone else. If this continues, we may need to have a discussion about WP:HOUNDING.4meter4 (talk) 17:41, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to open a Hounding discussion go right ahead. You have no argument given the number of editors I am interacting with but please, go right ahead. If you don't want to be warned about breaking pages, then maybe stop breaking pages? Threats about opening a discussion will go nowhere and are a waste of time. This is very simple. Abide by wikipedia policy about checking your edits for errors and using edit summaries and you won't hear from me again. Continue to break pages as you have been, and you, just like any other editor on here, will continue to hear from me.
Let me be clear, I am not WP:HOUNDING you by checking your edits exclusively. Pages you edit keep ending up in Category:Articles using duplicate arguments in template calls because you are not bothering to check for blatantly obvious mistakes such as this. Your editing practices, which [you] have been doing for a very long time obviously don't work. Also you should definitely go read WP:HOUNDING because leaving a grand total of TWO messages on your talk page is no where in the realm of hounding. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:47, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Let's be clear here, I've already communicated to you that I find your interactions distressing, and you have continued to leave messages on my talk page when requested not to. If an editor has clearly communicated distress about your communication style, and you persist, that is hounding behavior that falls under harassment. I do my best not to make errors when I edit, and the vast majority of my edits don't have errors. Occasionally I make a mistake. Picking on editors for minor mistakes and leaving messages over easily fixed problems is a behavioral problem. Just fix the mistake and move on. Nobody is intending to intentionally put in a broken template, and as I've stated, you are interrupting me in the middle of article building before I even have had time to go back and copy edit. 4meter4 (talk) 17:55, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yea that isn't how this works bud. You cannot claim hounding because you keep doing things wrong and being told so. Based on that bizarre argument an editor could insert spam into an article and claim they "feel distressed" by warnings of vandalism.
I am moving on to other projects. Let ME be clear:
 1. I am constantly checking for duplicate arguments in template calls. When a page ends up there I notify the editor who performed the edit (whether they have 1 edit or 1 million edits). This I did to you ONE TIME as you inserted duplicate arguments.
 2. I also notified you that you often don't use an edit summary. as nearly 50% of your edits have zero summary at all.
 3. Both the above are verified facts.
 4. You are blowing up my talk page with your complaining. Frankly, based on your logic, I feel hounded by you! Your constant complaining and threats to raise discussion of hounding (an obvious allusion to ANI) are highly distressing to me so I ask you to stop leaving messages on my talk page as you are, based on your own logic, hounding me.
Any further complaints by you on my talk page will be deleted and ignored just as you have deleted and ignored both templated messages I left on your talk page. So, using your very own arguments, walk away and leave me alone. Do not hound me further about the errors YOU made. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:02, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
For anyone else reading this, and for future documentation, this tread shows how this conversation can (and should) go when the editor doesn't get offended and distressed by a simple courtesy reminder. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 18:42, 3 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Toni Gilhooly non-existent Template

[edit]

Hi Zackmann, Thank you for fixing this issue. I am working on a BLP clean up project and I keep running into one offs where what I had been doing causes a problem. When I added this category it didn't alert me as a problem. Is there a trick to checking these categories and templates before I add them incorrectly? Thank you, Dd3r1n0 (talk) 19:31, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You need to use WP:PREVIEW. If the templates text shows up in red (For example: Template:EXAMPLE) then the template does not actually exist. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 19:36, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
One follow-up question: how did you get alerted to the issue? I would like to understand that process, as categories and templates are still something I am learning, and just when I think I understand it something new happens.
Thank you Dd3r1n0 (talk) 20:10, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Good question! There are a ton of Database reports with all kinds of information. The relevant one here is Transclusions of non-existent templates. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:17, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
So when I added {-{R to election}-} it created one of these red links on the "Transclusions of non-existent templates" because it did not exist? Dd3r1n0 (talk) 20:51, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Nailed it! That is it exactly. Also in the future, you can type R to election to generate R to election. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:54, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Great explanation; I really appreciate it! I am enjoying editing, but there is so much to learn. Thank you for taking the time to help me out. Dd3r1n0 (talk) 21:07, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
The day you stop learning is the day you retire from editing. Been at this nearly 15 years and approaching a million edits. Still learning new things everyday. Keep up the good work! Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:09, 4 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Notifications on duplicate template arguments

[edit]

Hello Zackman, I was wondering what the violation was that I committed on my edit to Aguanga, California which you reverted? You removed the archived information for the various census citations (the US census has at times changed its linkages so that is why I included them). It would be good to know so I can avoid it going forward. Thanks! Patapsco913 (talk) 17:03, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately as this was over 5 months ago, I cannot recall the specific nature of the issue. However if you go back and look at the last revision of yours Special:Permalink/1333630845 before I performed the revert you will see a large number of WP:DUPARGS, specifically the |archive-date=. @Zackmann08: deletion of jared12.

[edit]

This was supposed to be a draft, i published it by accident, be more respectful and have a soul like discospinster Techyman23 (talk) 20:38, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure how what I did was in any way disrespectful... Particularly given that I was not the one who deleted the page... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:40, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Mind explaining this? https://prnt.sc/wzwuHb9-xVjq Techyman23 (talk) 20:46, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I nominated the page, but if you go to Jared12 you will see very clearly that the page was deleted by Discospinster. I am not an administrator and therefore am not able to deleted pages.
I would advise you to check your tone and to check your attitude. You have a grand total of under 40 edits to wikipedia and are lashing out at someone with close to a million because of things you do not even remotely understand. Not a way to be a constructive member of this community. In the future, if you have a question, feel free to leave a message on my talk page. But coming here and accusing me of being disrespectful and not having a soul is not welcome. I will not feed you further. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:50, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry. Techyman23 (talk) 20:51, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You have been reverted by 3 different editors as none of your edits contain any sources. Additionally your comment above indicates you have a very clear WP:COI and should not be editing this page anyway. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 23:47, 5 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]

dcw2003

[edit]

```` dcw2003 ``` (Sorry I didn't ping you from my own talk page, respond at your leisure) Please accept my apologies for any recent conflicts I have caused. I have tried to increase the number of edit summaries I include in more recent wikipedia edits (and for the pages I have created from scratch, that are entirely new pages. These number well over 100 historically. I admit in the past, I have not used many edit summaries, particularly in the pages which I have written from scratch. You might consider that I have completed a large number of stubs where up to 80% of the completed document is my own research and writing.
You noted that a parameter that is not part of the infobox sportsperson script or program will not display, I believe. All of my parameters with their fields such as spouse=Margaret have always displayed. I always also previously used these infobox sportsperson field before on many other wiki pages. I apologize for running this by you again. I know you are busy and have greatly contributed to wikipedia. Take your time if you can answer me and try to be merciful. I have been hitting the preview button but have seen no colored warnings as you described. Thank-you again for your hard and diligent work with Wikipedia. As you've noted, my articles contain very large numbers of sources, often have photos, and are resource rich. No hurry, but if you can give me another Preview procedure instruction that eliminates "parameters in the infobox that are not supported" please do so. I'm sorry, but if they display properly after hitting Publish or Preview, I don't fully understand how they can be a future problem. As a former technical writer, I believe the infoxbox is an extremely useful tool for a user to rapidly find information, an extremely important feature of better quality online documents. I use frequent and very specific headers for this purpose as well.
Again, my apologies. You are obviously a very diligent, and hardworking contributor to wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by dcw2003 (talkcontribs) 16:53, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Dcw2003: we ALL make mistakes on here. Lord knows I make them on the daily. Would never hold that against you. Just be sure to note when an editor leaves a message on your talk page. If the message is ever unclear, you can always follow up and ask for more information. Won't speak for all editors, but I can certainly say that for myself I will always endeavor to provide further info if requested. Keep doing your thing and just remember to double check your edits with preview to check for those typos. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:24, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting to look on this persistant vandalism and edit warring
[edit]
Hi admin User:Zackmann08, i want to report you a new user Dena-4413 1 who is vandalizing this three pages related to stadiums as per seen in their contributions, 2. Despite my clear explanations per the list criteria notes point 1 (regarding permanent total capacity that includes both seating and standing areas as per the article criteria), this user is simply reverting back without giving any explanations multiple times. Edits from Dena-4413 also has use of non RS sources, vandalizing article titles with question marks (?), adding unwanted letters in a category and removing information, as confirmed from the contributions history and the article 3, 4, 5. This user was previously reverted by other two editors also on these pages like in this case 6 and this one too 7. If you look at these pages esp. the 8 and the 9 you will find various IP users who have done this same edits and have been reverted by numerous users, but after some time another IP or a new user like Dena-4413 arrives and makes same changes to these specific pages and engage in edit war like now. I dont want to get on 3RR in these pages so i thought to report you and another admin BlackKite from CAT:ADMINS so that you can take required action. ACMehta (talk) 20:14, 6 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
ACMehta I am NOT an admin so am not able to be of much help here. Black Kite may be able to help you, as they are an admin but if you feel vandalism is occurring or you require admin intervention, I encourage you to file an ANI report rather than reaching out to a specific admin. Hello Zackmann08, please look at the final/last 1/3 of the infobox before and after your edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Stony_Brook_Southampton&oldid=prev&diff=1358154936. Before your edit, the last 1/3 of the infobox is a open street map image that (hopefully) shows the geo location of Stony Brook Southampton. After your edit, the final 1/3 of the infobox reads "Lua error in Module:Mapframe at line 398: Unable to get latitude from input '82 acres (330,000 m2)'..". I do not think your edit is an improvement. However, i do not really understand the syntax of the entry "coor" in the template:Infobox university. It is quite probable that the old version that i did partially restore is only a little better than yours and also needs improvement. Thank you in advance --Himbeerbläuling (talk) 12:54, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Facepalm Facepalm This is why I shouldn't edit while tired... Special:Diff/1358255795/1358257989 shows the solution. The value being supplied to |coor= was NOT in fact the coordinates, but the size of the campus... Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:18, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, i think this thread is solved/done. --Himbeerbläuling (talk) 20:08, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
WikIProject Glass
[edit]
Out of curiosity, did you actually review the WikiProject Glass transclusions or did you just mass-convert them to use WikiProject Physics? I ask because in looking at your contribs a ton of them belong in a different project (such as Talk:Wine bottle). That was the entire reason the template was in "to review" and not "to convert". Primefac (talk) 14:54, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
My understanding and interpretation was that WikiProject Glass was being changed to be a taskfoce of the WikiProject Physics. I guess I misunderstood the outcome of that TFD for which I apologize, but the example you pointed to of Wine bottle... A wine bottle is, in fact, made of glass so does it not belong in that project? Genuinely not trying to be pedantic here... If I errored (which it sounds like I certainly may have) I do appologize. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:22, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
A wine bottle has nothing to do with physics, so it should have been replaced with WikiProject Materials per the close. It's done now, though, so the 800 or so pages that got edited will probably just eventually get sorted out by project gnomes as they go through checking things. Not the end of the world, just... keep this in mind for the next one. Primefac (talk) 16:26, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate it. Agreed not the end of the world, but I also 100% acknowledge and agree that I need to double check with the next one. If in any doubt about the close, I will be sure to seek more info before plowing ahead. Mislabeling the WikiProject isn't a big deal, but the next one could be... Your caution is genuinely appreciated and noted. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:43, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[reply]
