Having seen an editor insert 'unknown' in the death date section of several infoboxes (because they inserted a template into the infobox that automatically calculates ages and displays an error if there isn't a death date for someone over a certain age), I would like to suggest an effort is made to get this essay made a formal guideline (I completely agree that we should not say 'unknown' in Wikivoice unless sources say something is unknown). Not sure how that would be done though? Number 57 19:36, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- That's why I wrote the essay. Except in extreme situations where a person has disappeared or something along those lines, "unknown" is inappropriate. Chances are that someone knew of the death and in most countries since the beginning of Napoleonic records, has been recorded somewhere. Ignorance of the fact by the Wikipedia editor, does not mean the person's death was unknown and would be highly inappropriate to insert into an encyclopedia article. - After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g.
[[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.
Hi, could you tell me what was wrong with the edit that necessiated this reversion? Chubbles (talk) 01:56, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- @Chubbles: That appears to have been an errant click on my part. I wasn't aware that I had done that and there's no reason for me to have reverted it. Sorry. I've fixed it. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Toddst1 (talk) 20:01, 21 October 2025 (UTC)

And from where do you think I've "earned it"? Tell me. Deathnotekll2 (talk) 23:30, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not afraid to admit mistakes as you think, but intimidation is simply out of question. I don't listen to it and I don't care.
- So set aside your dislike for me (for now) and let's discuss what you think it's the issue. Deathnotekll2 (talk) 23:33, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Nobody said anything about dislike but you seem to be editing from a position of paranoia - like I dislike you or folks are ganging up on you. Your WP:BATTLEGROUND mentality will get you blocked pretty quickly. Toddst1 (talk) 23:38, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Editing from a position of paranoia? Hmm. Is this about the US english vs British english?
- If that's the case, then yes - it was my mistake.
- I was very, very angry with another matter here on Wikipedia involving an user who had been truly - and repeatedly harassing me because of an AfD. I have a tendency to be patient and even intended to keep his records on my talk page, but everyone has their limit. Mine was crossed.
- One other user notified me of regional differences in language using a warning label, which is annoying to say the least. Wikipedia's software was recommending to make several corrections on grammar - and said user, instead of politely explaining the software should be ignored, said "You have the responsibility as an editor. It's your fault to check for that". Not with these exact words, but he was rude and simply "shifted the blame" back to who he wanted to lecture from a superior position - or so it seemed to me, and very strongly. Is he having a bad day? I don't know. Should I care? I'm not sure. Maybe, maybe not. Every dispute has two sides. Not exactly a welcoming attitude for a newcomer, huh?
- If during this situation I have been "paranoid" as you say, know that it's only slightly so. I have been truly harassed by another user recently and this has a tendency to make you wary.
- Or is it about something else? Deathnotekll2 (talk) 23:49, 6 November 2025 (UTC)

- I missed the citation for the WP:DOB down in the Biography section while I was cleaning up the WP:DOY page. Hi I would like you to reconsider your recent revert of December 8 death Cahir Healy. The reasons given are WP:DOYCITE which states the need for "a reliable source which directly supports[a] the entry." The reverted entry cites Dictionary of Irish Biography (DIB) which is a project of the Royal Irish Academy. The project has Editorial and Governance teams comprised of well-known experts on Irish history - see https://www.dib.ie/about . The author of the Healy page is Éamon Phoenix his Wikipedia page refers to him as "...one of Northern Ireland’s leading social and political historians specializing in the history of the North-East part of the island." The other reason for the revert is WP:UGC. The DIB does not contain User-generated content. The website (and I assume the book) states that the DIB contains: "...comprehensive, scholarly biographies encompassing every sphere of human activity, the DIB is an indispensable work of reference for scholars, students, journalists, broadcasters, genealogists, diplomats and the general reader interested in Ireland’s past, or in the art of biography and life writing."
Now for the embarrassing part - upon rereading the article I got Healys date of death wrong. According to his page and the DIB he died not on 8 December 1970 but on 8 February 1970. So, the DOY entry was incorrect and was my mistake. The revert can actually lead to a correct entry on this important figure in Irish history. I'd like to make a correct DOY entry for Healy on the 8 February page. Thanks, Palisades1 (talk) 12:28, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
Healy DOY
[edit]See above. Palisades1 (talk) 12:30, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @Palisades1:. Thanks for the note. I'm tempted to self-revert but I think this should be clarified at WP:RSP or WP:RSN. Here's why:
- This sure does look a lot like WP:UGC with a review proces. Then, I figured out that the entire DIB is part of Wikidata [1] and we can edit Healy's entry right here on a Wikimedia property: [2]
- It's clear your heart is in the right place but this is a pretty weird source. Toddst1 (talk) 12:57, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

Your edit at List of Internet rap collectives
[edit]What's the reasoning for removing the bolding? I need some clarification on this because a lot of pages will use this style but then some editors will remove it from some pages. [edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2026).

Interface administrator changes
- Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
- The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).
- The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
- Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
- Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
- The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
- The May 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from April 29 to May 19. The call for candidates ends May 5.
- The 2026 Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is scheduled to run from April 25 to June 1. Candidacy submissions close on May 10.
- A new noticeboard for non-urgent, batch page protection requests has been created, primarily for the enforcement of contentious topic restrictions.
Monty Python
[edit]Hi,
I would argue that Monty Python has much more cultural significance than an average TV program. There are citations in DoY for musical compositions (when a symphony was first performed), for plays' and operas' first performances, and the like. Television programs are also well represented. For example, I just looked at February 28, and the final episode of MASH is listed. MASH was culturally significant for the US, and Monty Python equally so in the UK. In addition, a search for "cultural significance of Monty Python" returns a number of example of this show's importance.
So I would like to restore my addition. Do you agree?
Thanks,
Rich Richo98118 (talk) 22:53, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- As a big Monty Python fan myself, I appreciate your perspective. However, I don't think it rises to the level of WP:EVENTDOY. FWIW, WP:OSE an argument to avoid. Toddst1 (talk) 23:12, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for the OSE - I'll avoid that in the future.
- So what would convince you otherwise? Britannica cites them as being the "Beatles of comedy". Their legacy has been mentioned for SNL, South Park, and for numerous comedians. Phrases have been used in court opinions - at least six different Canadian opinions. Politicians, particularly in Britain have used quotes from the troupe. Python introduced the cold open, fourth wall breaks, meta-commentary, and more. I think it is highly culturally significant - just think about how different comedy would be had they not performed their premier. And I don't think you can argue that comedy would have evolved into the regardless. Yes, there were satiric shows on the BBC prior to Python, but only Python pulled together all of these pieces. It would not have happened in the US given the commercial considerations. Only at the BBC, and only at this particular time at the BBC could something this unusual have been broadcast. Speedy deletion declined: Michael Finnegan (song)
[edit]Hello Toddst1. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Michael Finnegan (song), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: A7 doesn't apply, this isn't about a specific recording, it's about the song genereally. Needs to go to AfD. There are sources provided which seem ennough to get through A7 too. Thank you. GedUK 10:31, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
